Finding the right supplements for you and your goals

A lot of people hate the idea of taking supplements whether in tablet or powder form. Mostly because they don’t like the idea of putting stuff into their body.

For me, taking supplements helps me towards my goals. It’s almost near impossible to get the correct amount of vitamins, metabolism boosting ingredients, protein and anything else into your body just by eating healthily. No matter how much meat and vegetables you eat. Depending on what your goals are, the right supplements for you will vary.

I get all of my supplements from My Protein. They do high quality supplements at a great price, and usually whenever I go to get my next stock up, they have some sort of offer of – BONUS! Here is a breakdown of what I take, when I take it and why.

Thermopure

I take Thermopure in capsule format twice per day. Once first thing in the morning and the other just before heading to the gym. For me I use it as pre-workout.

Benefits:

  • Reduces tiredness and fatigue
  • Supports a healthy metabolism
  • Supports the immune system
  • Increase altertness and gives you the kick you need to get up and go
  • Maintains blood glucose levels

As mentioned I use this as pre workout and to get me up and at it in the mornings. I previously had a bad experience with actual pre-workout mix, so this is the perfect alternative to me. Even the thought and taste of pre-workout (it’s not very nice) makes me gag, but with these you don’t taste a thing!

CLA – Fat Burner

CLA or Conjugated Linoleic Acid is commonly known as a fat burner. It is scientifically proven to reduce fat mass, whilst increasing lean body mass. So it’s perfect for trimming that unwanted fat and turning it into muscle. For more information on scientific research for CLA, click here to go to BodyBuilding.com.

I take 2 capsules, three times per day. Once in the morning, then before lunch and finally before going to the gym.

I literally swear by this, it does make one hell of a difference – but of course only if you’re training regularly and following a healthy diet.

Vitamins

I take Multi Vitamins from My Protein once per day, which basically includes a blend of every possible Vitamin your body could ever need. As I mentioned before it is almost impossible to get the full amount of vitamins your body requires just by eating healthily.

Benefits:

  • Boosts metabolism
  • Supports red blood cell generation
  • Reduces tiredness and fatigue
  • Relieves stress
  • Supports immune system and the function of the nervous system
  • Protects your heart

As well as this I also take an extra Vitamin B Complex tablets once per day, again from My Protein. Which again supports your immune system, but also helps your body re-heal itself, especially when you have sore muscles!

Omega 3

Omega 3 is an essential fatty acid which comes from fish. Although the term fatty may scare you, it is one of the healthiest fats your body can get. And it’s important to your body if you are looking for your body mass and muscle to grow. Our bodies are incapable of reproducing this acid, which is why it is essential to either consume a lot of fish or take Omega 3 capsules.

I take 3 of these per day, one in the morning, before lunch and again before the gym. Whatever you do – DO NOT CHEW IT!

Carb Blocker – White Kidney Bean Extract

Carb blocker is basically there to make you feel that little less guilty about having a cheat meal or a hell of a lot of carbs.

It basically helps to stop your body storing the glucose from carbs and fatty foods as fat. Which allows it to be burned off easier.

If I’m eating a load of carbs I take one of these around 45 minutes before a meal.

BCAA

BCAAs are a must have if you do weights in the gym and want to kick start muscle recovery. They also reduce tiredness and fatigue whilst boosting your immune system. Overall it allows for a quicker body recovery time, helping you reach potential when exercising.

I take two per day (only if I’m training), one before my session and another afterwards.

I cannot stand the taste of the powder form which you drink, so lucky for me My Protein has a tablet form. I honestly think I wouldn’t take it otherwise – it tastes so bad, but it is so good for you.

Whey Protein

Now, I think this is the most important aspect of any healthy diet. Last but not least eh! I struggle to eat enough meat for me to get the benefits of a high protein diet, so this is perfect for me to boost my protein levels without consuming a whole cow.

Benefits:

  • It allows you to lose fat but preserve the muscle
  • Build muscle and increase strength
  • Reduce hunger
  • Supports your immune system
  • Boosts the muscle recovery process

Over time I struggled to find one that is right for me. They were lumpy, they didn’t taste particularly good and a LOT have hidden sugars in the ingredients! Be sure to look out for this! With the My Protein Whey Protein, I go for the Chocolate Mint flavour, it tastes incredible. And – this may be due to my shaker… there are never any lumps!

I have one of these per day, usually just before or just after a workout.

Now you may think I rattle when I walk due to how many different capsules I take per day, but I really believe that they are the reason I am able to make steady progress with my fitness journey.  A lot of them also have similar benefits, but each one does something that helps me toward my goals.
