Superman Collection Update: 22.01.2018

Another week, another Superman collection update…

Each week, I go a little bit overboard with buying Superman comics and memorabilia. So much so that I have a huge back log in my blog drafts.

1: Action Comics Vol 3 – Issue 987 – Lenticular Cover

I’ve gone a bit mad on variant covers at the moment, especially the most recent lenticular covers from Action Comics! I was lucky enough to find somewhere that did subscriptions to variant covers only, so now I won’t ever miss an issue. This amazing cover comes courtesy of Nick Bradshaw!

2, 3, 4: Justice League Cinema Merchandise

Not sad at all… but I booked the day off work to see the midnight viewing of Justice League the day it came out! Best decision I ever made! As I was queuing up to get some popcorn etc, I spotted these incredible Justice League cup holders and popcorn tins, they had one for each character. Of course, I went for the Superman one! I got these in addition to the actual popcorn and drinks container, the lady at the till thought I was crazy when I said “No, no! Don’t put any drink in there!”.

5: Action Comics Vol 3 – Issue 988 – Lenticular Cover

Another incredible lentiuclar cover, however this time by Mikel Janin.

6: Action Comics Vol 3 – Issue 989 – Lenticular Cover

Yeah, I wasn’t lying when I said I had a thing for lenticular covers….  here is another one by Nick Bradshaw!

7: Superman Vol 4 – Issue 32B – Variant Cover

Another excellent variant cover, this one is by Jonboy Meyers for Superman Volume 4. I love the artwork on this cover, especially the simple, but effective shading!

8: Superman Vol 4 Comic – Issue 31B – Variant Cover

This comic is from the recent run of Superman Vol 4, which I have a subscription to. This variant cover is by Ian Churchill, and I have to say variant covers are slowly becoming my favourite things! I love seeing all the different alternate artworks and covers that come with them!

9: Superman Vol 4 Comic – Issue 29B – Variant Cover

As Forbidden Planet do not allow you to subscribe to the variant covers, only the standard ones, I had to go through eBay for each comic that I received to order the variant version (which was a nightmare!). So a huge thank you to Comic Biz Store who have allowed me to do subscribe to variant covers to save me the hassle of doing all of this! This particular cover is by Doug Mahnke from Aug 2017.

10: Superman Vol 4 – Issue 33B – Variant Cover

Another great variant cover by Jonboy Meyers, the artwork on this is incredible. So much detail! This is another recent issue of Superman Volume 4.

11: Action Comics Vol 3 – Issue 974

I have a lot of catching up to do on my comic reading, but Clark Kent v Superman?! HOW! I can’t wait to find out.

12: Man of Steel Novelization

I was lucky enough to get this for free on Justice League Day at Forbidden Planet! What a great freebie! And the cover is so simply but so powerful, and it’s also one of my favourite scenes in Man of Steel.

13: Superman Rescue Mission Game

I am so, so happy with this purchase. Just £7.49 on eBay, this board game is still sealed which is a rarity in itself! The game was made and released in 2001, making it 17 years old! There is a very slight hole in the box, but that is the only wear and tear on it. Other than that, its immaculate.

14: Justice League Day Free Comic – Issue 1

This is the comic that was released especially for Justice League Day to help promote the upcoming and brilliant film Justice League, of course. I LOVE this artwork, the detail on each of the characters is beautiful, and Superman is subtly added in there too.

15: Action Comics Vol 3 – Issue 991C – Justice League Variant Cover

Sticking with the Justice League film, this Action Comics variant cover by Nathan Fairbairn is amazing! Possibly one of my favourite covers. Again the detail on the characters is great, showing the DC’s Holy Trinity.

16: Superman Vol 4 Comic – Issue 35A

An extremely random cover, I haven’t read the story yet so I’m sure it’s relevant.

17: Superman Vol 4 Comic: Issue 34A

I love that all of the recent comics have been promoting the Justice League film. This cover is Possibly the BADASSEST Lois Lane we have ever seen, girl power! Bravo Patrick Gleason!

18: Action Comics Vol 3 – Issue 990C – Variant Cover

It’s a different one, but I really like Superman’s look in these issues, I can’t wait to read more about it to see how this came about! This cover by Neil Edwards and Jay Leisten is great and effective and from the synopsis I have read it perfectly illustrates what the issue is about.

19: Action Comics Vol 3 – Issue 990A – Lenticular Cover

This is the lenticular version of the same cover as above. I really wasn’t joking when I said I was mad on variants, now I have all three versions of the same issue.

20: Action Comics Vol 3 – Issue 991B – Lenticular Cover

And again, with this lenticular version of the cover of issue 991 of Action Comics, I now have every version of the issue!
