DC Comics have revealed details for a brand new Superman ongoing series, which was announced during the Superman panel at New York Comic Con last week.
Teased as a ‘new era’ for Superman, it was announced that an ongoing series titled ‘Superman’ would release February 2023. The series will be written by Joshua Williamson, with art by Jamal Campbell and will showcase a lighter side to Superman and his supporting characters.
Williamson commented that he would “take Clark on a fun, pulp style adventure in Metropolis against his greatest villains.” Whilst I’m a big fan of the current Superman comic series, this sounds like it’s going to be great and offer a playful take on the character, which we don’t get to see too often.
Here’s a look at the cover for Superman #1 by Jamal Campbell:
The wraparound cover (shown above) teases some new characters, but also some classic ones which I am very excited to see back in comics. My personal highlights are Livewire, Silver Banshee, Parasite and of course Bizarro. Not only do we have a brand new series announced, but we also have some character designs by Jamal Campbell which again feature old and new characters:
In a post on Joshua Williamsons blog he stated that his goal was to “use all of the Superman mythology to build a new direction and future for the Superman family”. That is a statement that gets me excited. Though I’m a huge fan of Superman himself, I also adore the Superman family and any comic book that plans to focus on them has my attention.
The official synopsis from DC states:
Superman has returns to Metropolis and his greatest enemy Lex Luthor is finally behind bars. The future of the Superman family has never been brighter! As Clark Kent settles back into his life, iconic and new enemies erupt from the shadows to spike down the Man Of Steel

This brand new Superman ongoing series is set to release in February 2023 and I cannot wait to hear more about this series.
