The Superman Toy Extravaganza Continues With Funko & McFarlane Toys
Great Rao Superfriends! Funko and Mcfarlane have both released a look at their extended line of figures inspired from the Superman film, Directed by James Gunn coming this July. Time to snatch your cape folks, (or your bath towel, no one’s judging) because we’re about to fly through the expanding selection of Superman movie toys.
In the world of McFarlane Toys, where the Todd Father presides (as comic book dorks and collectors call him), we no longer need to use x-ray vision to see what might be coming next, as we got our first look at the ultra-threatening 7 inch tall Ultraman figure. In the trailers thus far, we haven’t been able to really see detailed looks at what this brutish baddie’s costume looks like, but from most of the marketing ranging from sticker books and other action figures, it seems that Ultraman will be rocking some purple highlights on his costume to add a pop of color. And just like those brief glimpses, this ultra detailed look at the figure also shares those similarities. There’s not much we know about this masked menace, but judging from the trailer and the various poses we see done with the figure, this character is going to seriously pack a punch (and perhaps have some underlying anger management issues). You want Ultraman throwing hands with Superman? You got it, he comes equipped with six interchangeable hands, McFarlane has once again knocked it out of the park with the likeness, as Supes diabolical doppelganger looks ripped right out of the trailer, from the complicated linework on the suit mixed with the silvery finish on the U-logo, gives it an awesome level of authenticity. He also comes with his very own trading card and 22 points of action-ready articulation. If you’re wondering when you can get your hands on this powerhouse, there will be a release date coming up in June, so stay tuned.

If you’re looking for cute characters to add to your collection to lighten the mood, you’ll be pleased to hear that McFarlane will also be releasing an action figure for both Baby Joey and Baby Kaiju. The cuddly little kaiju figurine stands at about 4 ¾ inches tall and details given from Entertainment Earth also gives us info on what this critter will be up to in the film. It seems that it will have a bit of a tragic story as from the description from their site says: “Baby Kaiju is unleashed in Metropolis, increasing in size at an advanced rate, he soon becomes a threat to the entire city.” Many fans thought that perhaps the giant one terrorizing the city was in fact the parental unit going to retrieve their child and meeting a bitter end, but it seems as though they are one in the same. This tiny titan is a posed figure, which means there won’t be a terrible amount of moveability to it, but it makes up for its detail and sheer cuteness. With its bulgy pug like eyes and axolotl inspired appearance, it’s hard not to love. Another little guy who needs some love is none other than Baby Joey, a green infant who may or may not be the son of Metamorpho, also stands at about 4.5 inches tall. Both these fellas are limited edition collection vinyl figures, so if you’re looking to get them, make sure to keep your eyes peeled in July for updates regarding their release. Oh, and make sure not to feed them after midnight.

Another pre-posed figure coming out in July is the DC Direct Vinyl limited edition 4 ½ inch tall Metamorpho figure. This figure, unlike the others, has a more stylized appearance, giving him freakishly large hands and feet. He also boasts a comic booky concrete hammer hand, ready to play whack a Luthor.

Speak of the devil and he shall appear, DC Multiverse’s Deluxe Theatrical Lex Luthor figure is here. Lexy comes with two interchangeable heads, one being a disgruntled expression and a sly insufferable smirk. He also comes prepared with two extra hands, one fist for pounding his desk and slightly opened hand for quiet contemplation. A surprise most people might not expect is none other than the baby kaiju, no doubt being exploited by Lex to destroy Superman’s reputation. Lex also has a base and of course, the trademark trading card. You can get this apex Lex this July along with the other figures this July at your favorite online stores.

If you’re looking to open up some shelf space to add a super assortment of Funkos, you’re in luck. Funko has been popping off with brand new POP’s based off of the Superman film. Funko has an exclusive up their super-sleeve, as you can also pre-order a battle damaged Superman, while looking beaten, but ready to keep fighting for truth, justice, and a better tomorrow.

Superman has been around for so long, it’s hard to remember when he wasn’t. And yet regardless of how many times he’s recast, redrawn, re-designed, or re-imagined, he persists in our imagination. Toys, while being just mere objects, ignite creativity and wonder, and who better than to represent that wonder, than the world of Superman.
