REVIEW: Justice League Unlimited #10
‘Justice League Unlimited #10’, “To Save…Doomsday” is the tenth issue in the ongoing DC Comics series created by Mark Waid and Dan Mora. Waid and Mora have already taken us on a wild crossover journey in the six-part “We Are Yesterday” storyline and the ride continues as we march towards the impending arrival of Darkseid’s Apokolips.
The standard cover art, by Mora, delivers blockbuster chaos at its finest. Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman stand in tense unity, as Black Lightning uses his powers to do the unthinkable: saving the very monster that once killed Superman. Doomsday lies with his Time Trapper chain strewn about and broken as his body lies limp. Mora’s dynamic staging puts the reader right in the thick of the drama—chains rattling, energy crackling, and moral questions hanging in the air.

Nathan Szerdy’s variant cover brings glamour and power to the forefront with a cover that feels both fierce and fashion-forward. Wonder Woman and Supergirl stand back-to-back, radiating strength and beauty. Wonder Woman grips her glowing lasso with confidence, while Supergirl exudes poise and subtle attitude. The warm golden lighting bathes them in a mythic aura, blending classic pin-up stylization with superhero majesty. Szerdy masterfully balances allure and respect, giving us a cover that celebrates these heroines as both icons and individuals.

Rachta Lin’s variant cover conjures up a dazzling anime-inspired spectacle, with Zatanna commanding the scene like a mystical headliner. Blue magical energy swirls around her hands, crackling across the page like neon lightning. Below her, Martian Manhunter and Xanthe Zhou, grounding the supernatural with grit and determination. The composition is kinetic, cinematic, and brimming with fantastical energy. Lin’s style brings a fresh, otherworldly feel to the Justice League, leaning into wonder, spectacle, and spellbinding charm.

There are also variants available from Sarah Baslaim, Bruno Redondo and Matthew Clark & Romulo Fajardo Jr. These six covers highlight the versatility of the Justice League—from comedic elasticity and mythic elegance to cosmic mystery and earth-shattering battles. Together, they remind readers that the League isn’t just one thing; it’s a kaleidoscope of tones, aesthetics, and legends, all united under the same banner.

Anyone who has read anything by Waid knows that they are going to get a story with heart, thought-provoking situations, in-depth characters and jaw-dropping action. Added to that is Mora’s captivating visuals and as excited as I was to read this issue, I had to go back to the beginning of this comic run and relive this storyline to get a better view of this great issue. As the cover title suggests, something has attacked The Time Trapper, a more evolved Doomsday (yes, the same creature that killed Superman in the early 1990s.) All solicitations mention the return of Apokolips…but where and when will it appear?
Mora continues delivering masterpiece art throughout this series, colorful, impactful action that leaps off the page, from panel to panel. The action is felt in the looks on characters’ faces and the energy emitting page after page. Mora and Waid are a tag team of greatness as the artwork and words follow in perfect synchronicity. Waid was definitely born to write these characters and understands how to show us their different personalities and their mutual respect and love for one another. Even though each one of them have different backgrounds, different origin stories, powers or no powers, they all consider each other friends and family and stronger together as a team. Paired with Mora’s artwork, you have a blockbuster of a comic book series that delivers week after week.
In previous issues, we were introduced to the Quantum Ouorum, comprised of Time Trapper Doomsday and The World Forager, who came to warn the Justice League about the unfolding destruction of time and the leftover, destructive force of the Omega energy released when Darkseid was killed. After effects of that startling event continue to unfold within this issue and the stakes are raised even higher. Heroes and would be villains are put through their paces, emotionally and physically in non-stop, page-turning story and action. Waid and Mora are a comic book dream team.
(10/10) Justice League #10 is definitely an issue, heck the entire series, is a must for any real DC Comic book fans. This series has me waiting for its arrival at my local comic book shop with each issue release. With Waid and Mora, you can’t go wrong. Apokolips is coming! I don’t want to miss an issue and I can’t wait for more!
