It’s sad news this morning as Henry Cavill confirmed that he is no longer playing the role of Superman.
It’s sad news this morning as Henry Cavill confirmed that he is no longer playing the role of Superman. The news comes as a huge shock to fans after his return was only announced a few months ago following his cameo appearance in the post credit scenes of Black Adam.
Cavill’s Superman was loved, he genuinely is the Superman of this generation and the reaction from DC and Superman fans only confirm that as they share an outpour of love and farewells for his portrayal of the character. For those that know me, know how much I adore Henry Cavill and his take on Superman. It’s safe to say that this isn’t easy news for me to digest, especially after having our hopes brought up with the news of his return.
Cavill took to social media to share the news and I have to say, the way that the has handled it and worded his statement just goes to show what kind of man he is:
James Gunn also shared the news in a Twitter thread which also shared some news for Gunn & Peter Safran’s plans for their upcoming Superman film. The film is in initial stages and is set to be written by James Gunn, as of yet there is no director confirmed for the film. Their untitled Superman project is set to focus on the early stages of Superman’s life but will not act as an origin story, which is why Cavill will not be returning. Gunn also went onto say that his meeting with Henry was great and that they talked about exciting possibilities to work together in the future.
The pair state that they will be able to share more information regarding this project and others at the beginning of 2023. I think it’s safe to say that they have some Superman fans to win around.
Whilst there is dark cloud over this announcement, we must remember that Superman is a character that has been played and will continue to be played by numerous great actors. Superman isn’t a person, but in a way he is a state of mind and I will continue to support and share the love for my favourite character.
