Big Bad Toy Store are one of the largest online retailers for comic and manga figures, now they have announced their own exclusive version of Kaiyodo’s New 52 Superman from the Amazing Yamaguchi line.
The original figure was announced in December and is available for pre-order everywhere else, but this black suit exclusive can only be pre-ordered from Big Bad Toy Store.
Kiayodo is one of the foremost Japanese figure makers thanks to their “Revoltech” design. Revolver tech, as it is formally known, features several circular revolving joints. These joints can be big enough to revolve a figure’s whole limb and small enough to give 360 articulation to hands, feet, and head. Of course, they are also what holds the whole thing together. The original Revoltech line featured movie, comic, and manga characters on a seven-inch scale. Now, under the new branding of Amazing Yamaguchi, the figures’ articulations have only gotten better and the revolving joints have become more durable and precise. Figures are also more expansive with add-on parts.
Amazing Yamaguchi opened their Superman figure to pre-orders in December. Readers may be divided on him, but Superman from the New 52 era a decade ago gave us some new imagery of the Man of Steel. Younger, slimmer, and somewhat brash – this Kal-El was the Superman of the 2010s.
This seven-inch figure with four sets of hands and heads can capture all the full page poses from New 52 classics like Action Comics, Justice League, and Superman Unchained. Handsets include point ones for sound barrier-breaking flight, closed fists for punches that concusses cosmic entities, open ones for dramatic poses, and one with flicking fingers in reference to Justice League #2. Heads include three different eye directions and one with glowing heat vision eyes.
Big Bad Toy Store‘s exclusive variant of the figure puts Kal-El in a black suit variant of the New 52 suit never seen in the comics. The figure has all the same features and extra parts as the original and posing capabilities. The suit is a nice combination of black and silver as is traditional for Superman’s black suit. However, a unique touch is a red cape. Usually, the black suit has a black or nonexistent cape. Kiayodo opted to keep the red color which results in the figure resembling Kal’s costume in the Godfall storyline.
Kaiyodo’s products are premium in the figure industry and both the original figure and Big Bad Toy Store exclusive cost around $109 to pre-order.
Orders are expected to ship out during the summer this year in June and July.
