As part of the upcoming ‘Dawn Of The DCU’ it was announced that Phillip Kennedy Johnson would be taking on a brand new Green Lantern series.
Johnson confirmed to us in our recent interview with him the he is in the early stages of writing it. It will neither take place in outer space nor with Hal Jordan, but rather a tale contained on Earth focused on John Stewart. The exact details of the plot and character cast aren’t clear at the moment, but Johnson has refuted the claim that it’s a military-centric story, preferring the original take on Stewart as an architect rather than an ex-marine. Having grown up with and being more familiar with Hal Jordan, he sees this writing endeavor as an opportunity to really get to the bottom of a character that he seemingly missed out on.
Johnson stated: “I called Geoffrey Thorne and asked him for his thoughts on John Stewart and who he thinks he is at his core. I often do this with characters I want to get more familiar with. What he did was talk about Green Lantern for an hour and a half about how awesome Jon is and his whole story. I already had done some research on how he was and what he had been through, but I wanted to know who he was at his core. What I took from it is that Jon Stewart was always the obvious choice for Green Lantern while Hal Jordan was the dark horse pick. Whereas Jordan is the cocky test pilot and wings it as he goes, becoming a hero while Stewart is a leader, warrior, architect, and creative thinker. He also never really had any ambition of being a hero – just do his time of service. I have a very clear vision for what this miniseries is going to be.”
