With all the excitement around James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios announcement, Joe Otterson of Variety managed to get some bittersweet news about the future of ‘Superman & Lois’.
With The CW moving away from their DC Comics related content, the question of whether or not the show would continue past their upcoming third season quickly arose. When specifically asked, Gunn said, “It’s a show everybody likes, so it’s going to keep going for a little bit…one or two more seasons.” I’m sure ratings will still play a factor in the show’s longevity, but at least ‘Superman & Lois’ hasn’t been cancelled in the wake of DC’s new vision.
Gunn’s Tuesday announcement mentioned films and TV shows existing outside their main DC continuity would fall under a DC Elseworld’s banner. Sequel films for ‘The Batman’ and ‘The Joker’ will fall into this category as well as the ‘Teen Titans GO!’ cartoon. Due to specific story beats and Covid isolations, ‘Superman & Lois’ made it clear their Earth wasn’t connected to The Arrowverse last season and stands to reason it could easily continue under the DC Elseworld’s label.
Starring Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent/Superman, Bitsie Tulloch as Lois Lane, Alex Garfin as Jordan Kent, and Michael Bishop (replacing Jordan Elsass) as Jonathan Kent, Season 3 of ‘Superman & Lois’ premieres 14th March on The CW.
