Superman ’78 Garbage Pail Kid Card Revealed
Garbage Pail Kids latest online series pays homage and lampoons the 70s, and it just wouldn’t be the 70s without Christopher Reeve as Superman.
Since the 80s, Garbage Pail Kids has been a grossly (pun intended) fun and popular collectible card and sticker series from Topps. Seasonal online and retail card packs are still flying off the shelves and selling out by old and new collectors alike. Their latest online series pays homage and lampoons the 70s, and it just wouldn’t be the 70s without Christopher Reeve as Superman.
Garbage Pail Kid’s artist Brent Engstrom revealed his artwork for the card that would be featured in the set. Christopher Reeve’s Man of Steel is stylized as a GPK kid (based on the Cabbage Patch Kids from back in the day) doing his iconic shirt reveal maybe a little bit too hard as he tears his skin away too. Organic tissue humorously forms a GPK on his rib cage, substituting for the shield. The background is also colored with the proper Superman colors –blue, yellow, and red.
The card is listed as #28a and #28b with two different name variations as GPK cards usually are. #28a is named “Super Dan” and #28b is “Ripped Reeve.” ‘We Hate the 70s’ from GPK has been on sale on their website since Sept 7 and will remain on sale until Sept 14. One set is available for $19.99 and 10 sets for $179.99.
