James Gunn Reveals Emblem And Title Change For Upcoming ‘Superman’ Film
James Gunn took the opportunity on February 29, the official birthday of Superman, to reveal some internet-shaking news about ‘Superman: Legacy’.
As it would turn out, ‘Superman: Legacy’ was just the working title, and Rachel Brosnahan’s description of the new costume was confirmed. Gunn revealed the first official tease of the new Superman costume focusing on the emblem that Brosnahan described as the one from Kingdom Come. The Alex Ross influence was in fact confirmed by Gunn.
With some additional linework, the “S” for hope and super comes through. The straight edges as opposed to curves help to make the symbol look more alien. The ice fragments may be telling of some scenes to be set in the Fortress of Solitude. In his commemoration of Superman’s birthday, which only comes every four years as Leap Day, Gunn also revealed a title change with “Legacy” being dropped, it will now just be called ‘Superman‘.
“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film ‘Superman: Legacy.’ By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN,” wrote Gunn.
