Neva Howell And Pruitt Taylor-Vince Cast As Ma And Pa Kent In Upcoming ‘Superman’ Movie
Just when you thought that there could be any major announcements, ‘Superman‘ has found its Jonathan and Martha Kent with Pruitt Taylor-Vince and Neva Howell. As James Gunn has repeatedly stressed, Superman will be no origin story, so we may be able to expect Jon and Martha Kent at the farm always ready to guide their son on his hero’s journey.
This isn’t Taylor-Vince’s first DC production. Some may know him as Father Hennessey the medium priest from 2005’s Constantine with Keanu Reeves. Other comic book-inspired media he’s been a part of include The Walking Dead and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. He’s also a Prime-Time Emmy Winner. As a character actor, it will be interesting to see what he could do with one of history’s most famous fathers.
Neva Howell’s first big Hollywood break may come as Martha Kent as most of her roles have been small television and film ones often limited to the background. Martha’s role in Superman’s story is anything but she has truly kept him human despite how powerful he grew growing up. Of course, Gunn would cast a sweet, short southern woman as such.
Clark’s parents being present has been a staple in most Superman media as the Kent farmhouse is where he’ll often go when he needs guidance from the people who raised him – or he’s just being a good son and stopping by to say hello. It’s wonderful to know that they’ll both be on this new journey with him.
