The Cleveland Convention Center may not be just be home to a new Superman statue, but a whole Superman Plaza and it’s all starting with this statue to commemorate Cleveland natives Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster for the one of the most significant contributions to pop culture.

The Siegel & Shuster society has been raising money for various features to make up the proposed plaza, and the Superman statue one is the most significant. The silver statue features the Man of Steel leaping into action as opposed to flying to keep in touch with his roots, but with all the modern elements of his suit like the current insignia. The Siegel & Shuster Society lists its goal as $1,723,000 for the statue. At the time of writing, $903,000 of the goal has been met.

Other planner features that the Siegel & Shuster Society is raising for Superman Plaza includes a statue of both Siegel and Shuster along with Joanne Siegel (the inspiration for Lois Lane). The Siegels look up as Shuster illustrates on his knee. The Superman statue is meant to be positioned above this one, so it looks their creation is actually flying over them. A replica of the phone booth Clark used to change in is also planned.

All donations to the Siegel & Shuster Society’s Superman Plaza fundraising campaigns can be made through their website
