Daydream Theatre Company & Rhode Island Stage Ensemble Unite For ‘Jerry and Joe: Birth Of The Superhero’
Daydream Theatre Company is partnering with the Rhode Island Stage Ensemble for their brand new Spring production, ‘Jerry and Joe: Birth Of The Superhero’.
The production is both written and directed by Lenny Schwartz and tells the true story of Superman creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The production promises to be “an adventure brim full of humour, heartbreak, and redemption,” following the journey of two young men from Cleveland who changed comic book history but were left nearly penniless as their creation soared to unprecedented heights.

The production features a cast of fourteen local performers, including David Weber II, Derek Laurendeau, Julian Trilling, Jon Govoni, Tom Chen, Lionel Lafleur, Julia Levine, Emily Partington, Dennise Kowalczyk, Arianna DePalma, Geoff White, Nathan Suher, Greyson Yarger, and Timothy DeLisle. Jeni Hayden serves as stage manager, with renowned comics historian Arlen Schumer providing poster design.
Performances will run for two consecutive weekends in May 2025: May 15-17 and May 22-24, with all shows beginning at 8:00pm. The historic Bell Street Chapel, located at 5 Bell Street in Providence, provides an intimate setting for this exploration of the origin of Superman’s creation. Tickets are available for $18 online or $20 at the door.
‘Jerry and Joe: Birth Of The Superhero’ offers theatre-goers a chance to discover the human story behind one of popular culture’s most enduring icons and reflects on questions of artistic recognition and compensation that remain relevant today.
