DC Announces Hardcover ‘The Death Of Superman: Absolute Edition’
In the waning months of 1992, DC Comics pulled off one of the most impactful Superman events the character, and the industry, has ever experienced with “The Death of Superman”. What began as a stalling tactic to put off Lois and Clark’s wedding (so his return was inevitable) the creative teams of the time were able to sow uncertainty of his death’s permanence. Now, this wasn’t Superman’s first death, nor would it be his last, but something about how this one was crafted continues to set it apart. To that end, DC has recently announced the collected trade version of the initial crossover will be getting the Absolute Edition treatment.
Slated to release around the 33 year anniversary in November 2025, the Absolute Edition will have a standard version and a limited to 1993 copies direct market upgrade. The new hardcover trade will feature over 200 pages of never-before-seen artwork, brand-new essays, scripts, retrospectives, a trading card gallery, and more. Presented in a resealable black poly bag that recreates the iconic bleeding insignia of “Superman” #75, the edition also comes with a funeral box containing replicas of the memorabilia in the Memorial Edition, a remastered reproduction of “Newstime: The Life and Death of Superman”, and new in-world artefacts from the event. For the limited direct market production, take all that, add a Dan Jurgens signed copy of his original Doomsday design, and place it in a case fashioned after Superman’s tombstone.

The 8 ⅛ inch by 12 ¼ inch hardcover clocks in at 424 pages and is scheduled to sell for $125 US with the direct edition marked up to $150 US. Releasing November 25th makes it a great gift idea for the avid Superman fan this coming Holiday Season. You can pre-order it here.
