REVIEW: Secret Six #4
Secret Six #4 continues the story of this unlikely bunch, so far I am loving the dynamic between them and always look forward to seeing what they get up to next.
But before we get into the issue itself, here’s a look at the covers. The main cover is by Stephen Segovia and it’s eye-capturing cover and also relevant to the story, so no major complaints. The green shading is an odd choice, but not overly distracting.

Leirix Li’s variant is a fun one, I love the use of the neon colours and bands and also the facial expressions which are exactly what I’d expect of the characters involved. It would have been great to see the whole team on this cover though, but perhaps that’s to come!

Laura Braga’s cover is by favourite of the bunch, I actually love this cover, and I hope it’s used on the collected edition…it highlights Dreamer, but we still see the whole team. It also doubles as a great poster option too and the details are great!

Nicole Maines is a superb writer, and if her acting career doesn’t continue, she can easily fall back on it (curse her multiple talents!). This issue starts of a bit rough because it not only picks up directly from issue #3, but plays out the action while being narrated over with unrelated exposition, but by page 4 the story is back on track, and very quickly leans back into the character work. And let me tell ya, Maines KNOWS her characters. She gets their voices just right, plays on their history, and is very good at moving pieces cross the board. Having said that, because this issue was mostly backstory to catch us up, not a lot actually happens in terms of the plots she set up for the series, and there’s no Dreamer in it at all, which is a bit disappointing. But I’m not worried, because I know that next issue will have some major action in it.
Cian Tormey and Stephen Segovia draw very seamlessly together, so no issues there. I don’t personally love how angular the style is, but that’s not a mark against them in any real way, just my preference. It definitely allows for some good action sequences though!
(7/10) Secret Six #4 is yet another solid issue that showcases Nicole Maines talent. Her depiction of these characters is near perfect and I love how she captures that in her writing.
