Playwright, actress, and screenwriter Ana Nogueira has been tapped to write the next live-action Wonder Woman movie for DC Studios, according to the TheWrap. Nogueira, who has become a trusted creative voice within the studio, is also the credited writer for the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow film, currently in post-production, and a live-action Teen Titans project.

Following TheWrap’s report, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn confirmed the news on Threads, stating that Nogueira is indeed the lead writer for the new Wonder Woman. Gunn added that the studio may bring in a co-writer at a later stage, though no names have been announced. He also clarified that no director or lead actress has been attached to the project yet, according to TechRadar.

The new Wonder Woman film is part of DC Studios’ ambitious “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters” slate, which follows the release of Superman (2025). Alongside Batman, Gunn and fellow co-CEO Peter Safran view Wonder Woman as one of the tentpole properties that will help shape the tone and success of the DC Universe’s next era.

Nogueira, known for her Off-Broadway plays and television roles in series such as The Vampire Diaries, has been steadily building her reputation as a screenwriter. Her script for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow—based on the acclaimed DC Comics series by Tom King—is slated to hit theaters June 26, 2026, and is expected to introduce a fresh, character-driven approach to the Kryptonian heroine, portrayed by HBO’s House of Dragon star Milly Alcock. Fans got their first peek at Alcock as the Girl of Steel in Superman. She will be joined in her feature film by Jason Mamoa as Lobo, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura and Matthais Schoenarts as Krem of the Yellow Hills.

With her new assignment, Nogueira will take on the challenge of reimagining the Amazonian warrior for a new generation of moviegoers. No plot details for Wonder Woman have been revealed, but industry watchers will be looking to see how her vision compares to previous portrayals of the character, particularly in the wake of Patty Jenkins’ two films starring Gal Gadot.

As DC Studios continues to build momentum with a mix of fresh faces and iconic characters, Nogueira’s dual role in shaping Supergirl and Wonder Woman positions her as one of the key creative voices guiding the future of the DCU.
