Mattel Sets Timeline for DC Toy Comeback in 2027
Mattel has officially clarified its rollout timeline for new DC Comics toys, putting to rest weeks of fan confusion over who’s making what—and when, according to reports from Toy News International. The toymaker confirmed that kid-friendly DC products will begin hitting shelves in mid-2026, while collector-focused action figures will follow in 2027, marking Mattel’s full return to the DC Universe.
The clarification comes after Todd McFarlane recently revealed that McFarlane Toys will continue producing DC Multiverse figures through the end of 2026. That statement seemed to conflict with Mattel’s February press release, which hinted that the company would resume producing DC toys in mid-2026.

After some digging, it’s now clear that the timeline involves a phased transition of licenses. Mattel will first take over the kid-oriented segment—previously managed by Spin Master—sometime in 2026. The collector-oriented license, currently held by McFarlane Toys, will then shift to Mattel at the end of 2026, paving the way for its highly anticipated adult-collector offerings in 2027.
When Mattel originally lost the DC license in 2020, the rights were split: Spin Master handled children’s toys, while McFarlane Toys took over the adult collector market. Mattel’s earlier statement didn’t distinguish between these two categories, which led to confusion among fans and collectors.
While details remain under wraps about what Mattel plans for its high-end collector line, early industry chatter suggests that announcements could come sooner rather than later. Until then, McFarlane Toys will maintain its steady stream of DC Multiverse figures through next year—ensuring that collectors still have plenty to look forward to.
Fans can expect a smooth transition between companies as both brands continue to serve the DC fandom in their own unique ways. As more release dates and product details emerge, updates will follow right here.
