Justice League Unlimited #14 continues to follow Mr Terrific and his team through the depths of Hell. Honestly, I am having a blast with this side mission so far and this issue really sets the stakes and importance of their mission.

But before we get into the issue itself, let’s take a look at the covers. The main cover is by Dan Mora and as always is an incredible sight, though I found this cover had little to do with the issue itself, you have to give Mora his props for this cover.

REVIEW: Justice League Unlimited #14

The variant covers by Kevin Wada is excellent. We see Booster Gold who is being influenced by Darkseid himself and the foreshadowing shows that too. The detail is incredible too, it almost feels photorealistic.

Sanford Greene’s variant is another excellent addition, I always love these team roster covers, though I have to say it is questionable to see Mr Terrific flying alongside Superman and Green Lantern. Though I have to say I adore the classic art style on the contemporary deigns, that can be especially said for Guy Gardner.

There are also variants available from Jeff Spokes and Stevan Subic.

Justice League Unlimited #14 continue to follow Mr Terrific and his side mission with his very own team. So far their mission to the centre of the underworld has been CRAZY and it doesn’t end here. The team wander through the darkness, as they walk they realise what they are walking upon, and it’s another crazy aspect of Hell, I have to say the creativity in the last few issues so far have been stellar and this issue is no exception! Mark Waid continues to always knock it out of the park in everything that he does.

This time they face Charon, the Ferrymen of the River Stix, he demands payment in exchange for their passage; but it seems Mr Terrific has gotten the wrong end of the stick. It isn’t just coin he requires, but a personal token. Whilst many of them have items to spare, two do not and instead have to give parts of themselves up… but not bodyparts… parts of who they are. Mr Terrific must give up his ability to seek fairness and equality and Superman must give up his hope. Whilst we can already see the consequence of this, I’m sure more will play into this down the line. As Charon allows the. passage, no one said it was going to be a safe one, the mistake that is made though is the fact that the creature attacks in water and it just so happens, Aquaman is on this team! Here we see some great action between him and the monster, and it ends in a shocking tragedy!

At the Watchtower, the evacuation of Earth now requires more assistance as more members are called to help. but as some head to the boom tubes to get stuck in, they encounter a problem. The boom tubes are completely dead and they find themselves trapped. As the rest arrive, things are off… everything looks and feels different, as they try to find out why, they encounter Atomic Skull, and he isn’t alone, giving this already thinly spread team even more to deal with.

The artwork as always is just incredible. Dan Mora and Tamra Bonvillain continue to excel themselves, the creativity that has gone into creating the perils of Hell is excellent! The different atmospheres and characters we encounter in this issue are just incredibly and so so detailed as always. It’s always a joy when I see this creative team working together.

(10/10) Justice League Unlimited #14 is unpredictable and exciting and honestly I’m loving this side mission so far and loving getting to know these versions of the characters so far and the chaos isn’t over just yet!
