Superman’s next animated chapter is officially on the way, and Season 3 of My Adventures with Superman looks ready to push Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen and Kara Zor-El into their most complicated adventure yet.

According to an exclusive report from Entertainment Weekly, My Adventures with Superman Season 3 will premiere Saturday, June 13, at midnight ET/PT on Adult Swim’s Toonami block, with episodes streaming the following day on HBO Max. For UK and international viewers, official promotional material from Adult Swim UK & Europe and DC Comics points to a June 14 premiere on HBO Max. That announcement is exciting, but the first major tease makes it clear the story is heading into darker territory. Official artwork shared by Adult Swim and DC gives fans a first look at what appears to be Cyborg Superman, complete with a glowing red eye, cybernetic features and a twisted version of the Superman symbol across his chest. The U.S. post came with the ominous line, “Not every Superman protects tomorrow,” while the UK and Europe post stated, “Kryptonian blood runs thicker.”

Superman’s next animated chapter is officially on the way, and Season 3 of My Adventures with Superman looks ready to push Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen and Kara Zor-El into their most complicated adventure yet.

EW confirmed the new season will take inspiration from the famous Reign of the Supermen storyline from the 1990s. Showrunner and executive producer Jake Wyatt put it plainly, saying, “We’re digesting Reign of the Supermen.” He also made clear the series is not simply copying the comics, adding, “It’s not gonna be a retread of the comics.” The original Reign of the Supermen followed the aftermath of Superman’s death and introduced figures who claimed, reflected or distorted the Superman legacy, including Cyborg Superman, Superboy, Steel and the Eradicator. Wyatt explained that the show’s take is “less Death [of Superman]” and more about asking, “What’s a Superman?” He also noted that the fun comes from “all these impostors who have the same power set but different values.”

That question could become the emotional core of Season 3. Clark has spent the first two seasons discovering his Kryptonian heritage, building his relationship with Lois and learning what it means to be a hero. Now the world may face multiple versions of Superman, and not all may stand for truth, justice or tomorrow. The first look also confirms Cyborg Superman will be a major force right from the start. Wyatt told EW, “We’re Cyborg Superman right out the gate.” Hank Henshaw was introduced in Season 2 as someone who distrusted aliens and ended the season in danger after his aircraft was shot down over Metropolis. Wyatt teased that experience is “not gonna improve his view of extraterrestrials,” making his transformation especially loaded.

Superboy is also confirmed, inspired by the leather jacket-wearing version from the 1990s comics. Wyatt said Superboy will embody “the tension between hope in the present and fear in the future,” while Steel, voiced in previous seasons by Byron Marc Newsome, will return in a lighter role. And then there is Lex Luthor. EW reports that Lex will be “a huge part” of the new story, which makes sense for a season built around fear, control and the meaning of Superman’s power. Wyatt explained, “Lex is all fear all the time,” describing him as the character who most embodies the season’s larger concept and drives the action thread. In a season filled with distorted reflections of Superman, Lex may be the one character most determined to prove that the world should fear the symbol instead of trust it.

The returning voice cast adds more excitement. Jack Quaid returns as Clark Kent/Superman, with Alice Lee as Lois Lane, Ishmel Sahid as Jimmy Olsen and Kiana Madeira as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. Season 3 picks up after the Brainiac saga, with Clark looking toward a future with Lois, Lois weighing her career at The Daily Planet, Kara trying to follow her cousin’s example and Jimmy adjusting to life as a celebrity journalist after helping prove aliens exist. Quaid offered a warm message to fans after the long wait, saying, “I just wanna thank the fans for their patience,” before teasing that Season 3 is “really funny” but that “the stakes are also so much higher.”

Season 3 will also include Jessica Cruz, the Green Lantern set to headline her own animated offshoot, My Adventures with Green Lantern. Wyatt described Jessica’s appearance as a light cameo, while noting that the spinoff remains in pre-production and is awaiting an official pickup. As a Green Lantern known for overcoming fear and self-doubt, Jessica fits beautifully into a season examining fear, hope and the future from multiple angles.

With Cyborg Superman arriving immediately, Superboy entering the story, Steel remaining part of the world, Lex Luthor driving the fear-based conflict and Jessica Cruz opening the door to the Green Lantern side of this animated universe, My Adventures with Superman Season 3 looks ready to grow in a major way.
