My Adventures With Superman Creators Reveal Key Characters Cut from Season 3
My Adventures With Superman wrapped up its third season Saturday, August 15, but according to the show’s creators, the already Superman-family-heavy season could have been even bigger.
In a new interview with Gizmodo’s io9, co-showrunners Jake Wyatt and Brendan Clogher discussed the ambitious third season and revealed that Power Girl and Conner Kent/Superboy were originally planned to appear. These weren’t simply characters briefly considered during early brainstorming. According to Wyatt, versions of both characters had been developed far enough to appear in scripts and outlines before ultimately being removed. The reason? There simply wasn’t enough room. Wyatt explained that the creative team had developed more characters than the season could adequately handle. Power Girl and Conner eventually had to be removed after the scripting stage because there wasn’t enough time to properly serve everything the writers wanted to do. “It would’ve been twice the season you got,” Wyatt said.

Season 3 nevertheless delivered a substantial expansion of Superman’s world, building its own interpretation of the Super-Family while continuing the series’ loose adaptation of concepts from the classic “Death and Return of Superman” and “Reign of the Supermen” eras. And the creators may not be finished expanding that family. While Adult Swim has not announced a fourth season of My Adventures with Superman, Wyatt and Clogher revealed that they already have plans involving Steel if the series gets the opportunity to continue. The Season 3 finale also deliberately leaves several pieces of Superman’s story unresolved, giving the creative team plenty of material to explore should another season receive the green light.
Fans who want to revisit the season won’t have to wait long. Toonami will rerun the first five episodes of Season 3 this Saturday, August 22, beginning at midnight, starting with “Into the New World” and continuing through “The Death of Superman.” The following Saturday, August 29, Toonami will return with the second half of Season 3, giving viewers a two-week opportunity to experience the complete story again. Toonami announced the special schedules earlier this month through its official social media channels.
For now, Power Girl and Conner Kent remain two intriguing additions to the My Adventures with Superman universe that almost made it into Season 3. But with John Henry Irons already established as Steel and the showrunners indicating they have more plans for him if the series continues, there is still plenty of room for Superman’s extended family to grow. Whether Power Girl or Superboy eventually get another chance to join Clark’s animated world remains to be seen—but the possibilities for a fourth season are certainly there.
