McFarlane Toys Begin Pre-Orders for Earth-2 Superman and Superman ’78 Figures
McFarlane Toys has begun pre-orders at various retailers for two special edition Superman figures from around the DC Multiverse –an extremely aptly named use for the figure line. In time for the holidays, we have Val-Zod, Superman of Earth-2, and Clark Kent from Superman: The Movie. Earth-2 Superman is figure #71 in the McFarlane Collection Edition Series and the Christopher Reeve figure an Elite edition.
After the death of Kal-L in The New 52, Val-Zod became the new Superman of Earth-2. A man from a hopeless background learning that hope is within him all long –it’s a really good arc. His blue and white suit with a Man of Steel-inspired emblem (which was big at the time) is one of the best alternate Superman costumes.
The 7” figure comes with all the points of articulation McFarlane Toys specializes in and two interchangeable hands and felt cape. The best part of this figure by far, is that fact Val-Zod finally looks happy here –having fully embraced being a symbol of hope. The trademark collector card is included and it’s a bit strange. Val Zod is sharing the card with Calvin Ellis, the Superman of Earth-23.
Pre-orders for the Elite Edition Clark Kent Superman: The Movie figure start on November 5. This figure with all of Christopher Reeve’s likeness comes packed with tons of accessories, even some not for the figure. The most Superman this figure gets is the open shirt, but even that can be replaced with an unopened one.
The glasses are even their own accessories and not interchangeable heads (there is one where his hair is more Superman -like). It comes with a couple sets of hands and other accessories like a hat, coat, and briefcase. Along with the collectable card, you also get Clark’s Daily Planet press pass. That’s a great prop and costume accessory. Honestly, this looks like it could be a premium format figure.
The Superman Earth-2 figure is available to pre-order at $34.99, while the Clark Kent figure is available to pre-order for $50.00 and are both expected to ship from mid December.
