That’s right, Electric Blue Superman returns in DC’s huge upcoming event ‘Lazarus Planet’, this time it’s Jon Kent!
The news was revealed at the ‘Explore the DC Multiverse’ panel which took place at New York Comic Con 2022. The panel showcased what’s to come for the DC Multiverse and it’s safe to say that late 90s Superman fans will be pleased to see a particular suit back in the pages of a comic. That comic will be the next large scale event, ‘Lazarus Planet’ and will be written by fan favourite Mark Waid.
The full creative teams behind the event are yet to be announced, though we can expect to see involvement from; Riccardo Federici, Billy Tan, Skylar Patridge, Gene Luen Yang, Nicole Maines, Dan Watters, Francis Manapul, Josie Campbell and last but not least, Phillip Kennedy Johnson. That’s already a phenomenal team and there are more announcements to be made nearer to the release of the event.
The series is set to launch in 2023, though DC didn’t hesitate to tease fans, here’s what they had to say:
“Following the events of Mark Waid and Mahmud Asrar’s Batman vs. Robin #4 this December, the Lazarus Volcano has erupted—spewing dangerous and transformative chemicals into Earth’s atmosphere, resulting in chaos across the DC universe! As these Lazarus clouds rain down upon the planet, people across the globe begin to develop strange new abilities, watch their already-extraordinary abilities change, and witness a whole host of chaos unlike anything the DCU has experienced before!”
Though it seems that Jon Kent/Superman may not be the only character to receive a power change, as promotional artwork that was released by DC for the series shows other characters like Batman, Martian Manhunter, Red Canary, Monkey King, Damian Wayne, Poison Ivy, Power Girl, Yara Flor and The Shazam Family. I’m very interested to see where this event takes these characters and what the repercussions will be.
‘Lazarus Planet’ launches on 10th January 2023 with the release of ‘Lazarus Planet: Alpha’, with tie ins released weekly with the following titles; ‘Lazarus Planet: Assault On Krypton’, ‘Lazarus Planet: We Once Were Gods’, ‘Lazarus Planet: Legends Reborn’, ‘Lazarus Planet: Next Evolution’, ‘Lazarus Planet: Dark Fate’ and ‘Lazarus Planet: Omega’.
