McFarlane Toys Announce Injustice 2 Superman & Brainiac Action Figures

Not just Superman, but also Brainiac from Injustice 2 are coming to McFarlane Toys’ DC Multiverse line as pre-orders begin with all available retailers. While these are individual figures and not a two-pack, the timing of the pre-order announcements seems almost coincidental.

Injustice 2 doesn’t take too many risks with the story as it’s a retelling of Superman: Brainiac. After Batman’s freedom fighters take down Superman’s regime, Brainiac arrives to collect Metropolis, Gotham, and several other cities. Kara also plays a major role in the survival of Kandor. Brainiac, voiced by Jeffery Combs, acts as the game’s main antagonist and brings heroes and villains together in a battle for the planet which they are already fighting over.

Brainiac, along with Superman, have their figure molds based on their in-game models. Brainiac is portrayed as a Coluvian in a technologically advanced suit rather than an android or cyborg. The classic purple nodes on his head are integrated into the look of a helmet. The figure also comes with attachable robo-tentacles which caused a lot of problems for those who fought against him in the game.

Superman’s look in Injustice 2 always took a more Kryptonian turn as he wears a headpiece akin to the ones Jor-El was often seen in and completely forgoing his classic suit. While it may not be Superman’s best look, it was a unique costume. Superman had a sad story in Injustice 2 rather than an antagonistic one. While working with his old team we want him to come back into the light so badly, but alas this Superman may be too far gone. Like several other Superman figures from the 7″ DC Multiverse line, this figure comes with interchangeable hands.

Both figures come with character cards as well signature to the series along with standard bases. Brainiac’s card uses his in-game art while Superman’s, interestingly enough, uses comic art from an issue of Injustice (the first series).

Both figures are available to pre-order now for $22.99 via the McFarlane Toys website.
