James Gunn Reveals First Look At Krypto In Upcoming ‘Superman’ Film
They say ‘a dog is a man’s best friend’ well, the same can most certainly be said for a Superman as we get our first official look at Krypto the Superdog from the hotly anticipated 2025 Superman film.
The image recently revealed by Director James Gunn takes direct inspiration from All Star Superman #6 by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely as Superman and Krypto enjoy a quiet moment on the moon as the pair gaze peacefully upon their adopted home world of earth.
James Gunn also shares with us via social media how krypto’s inclusion in the movie came to be as he reflects upon his own experiences with Ozu, a dog he recently rescued and adopted during the writing of this project.
Krypto is an essential part of Superman lore who first appeared in Adventure Comics #210 created by Otto Binder and Curt Swan. Krypto however is no stranger to the big screen as he appeared most recently in 2022’s DC League of Super-Pets voiced by Dwayne Johnson, and also had a live action adaptation in the recent Netflix series, Titans.
This is a wonderful image full of heart and whimsy. It helps focus more on the man and less on the Super which I believe is an integral aspect of any good Superman story. I can’t wait for new audiences to fall in love with Krypto, a character I hold very dear to my heart.
‘Superman‘ hits theatres on 11th July 2025.
