McFarlane Toys Release ‘Superman’ Movie Action Figure Lineup
With James Gunn’s summer blockbuster Superman soaring into theaters this July, it’s only fitting that McFarlane Toys gives us our first look at the array of brand new figures to coincide with the film.
First up is the Theatrical Deluxe Superman and Krypto Action Figure, which stands at about 7 inches tall (like the rest of the Multiverse line). It puts the “action” in Action Comics, as it not only has 22 points of articulation, but three alternate face plates, two extra hands, a base, and a poseable cloth cape, perfect for any majestic cape-flap pose of your choosing. Not only that, but he also comes with a trading card and Kal-El’s canine friend, Krypto.

If you’re looking for a more streamlined Superman figure a bit on the cheaper side, don’t worry, Todd’s got your back. This figure is much like the prior one, except this time with a plastic cape and an extra two sets of hands. And just like the other figure, it shares the same excellent level of detail and likeness to David Corenswet seen in the film. Big Blue wasn’t the only character in the film to get the toy treatment, as pre-orders for Metamorpho, played by Anthony Carrigan, are also available. The sculpting on this one is definitely a stand out, capturing the organic elements that make up his body. He comes with two extra interchangeable hands and a base.

To address the Kaiju in the room: the massive monster seen in the Superman trailer also has their very own figure as well. Standing at 10 inches tall, this hulking beast will offer your collection an added sense of scale and give your Superman a climactic battle, wherever you decide to have it take place.

To close out the Multiverse wave, we got snapshots of the continuation for Wave 1 which will be available in June. We got a teaser image for Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, sharply dressed in a dark purple tux, giving an even sharper expression. Even from the one image provided, the team at Mcfarlane nails Hoult’s likeness to a tee. Speaking of the letter T, Mr. Terrific, portrayed by Edi Gathegi, is also in the lineup for the June releases. While we only get to see a side profile of him, we see him dual wielding some t-spheres and rocking his iconic leather jacket. Last but not least, one of Clark’s computerized companions, Robot #4 voiced by Alan Tudyk looks like he’s ripped right out of the sneak peek trailer. In the photo provided, it appears he will have a cloth goods cape and a shiny metallic finish added to his sculpt, giving it the baby blue sheen it needs.

For those who enjoy the retro side of collecting, Mcfarlane’s new wave of DC Super Powers lineup offers the aesthetic of action figures from that era while also giving fans a blend of new and old with playsets and toys based on the new movie. Standing at 4.5 inches tall, the wave includes Superman, Guy Gardner, Mr. Terrific and Metamorpho, all beautifully translated into the 1980’s nostalgic style.

But the hype train doesn’t stop there! You can also purchase the Fortress of Solitude Headquarters playset, perfect for displaying your figures and also bringing a piece of DC Comics history to your home.

If you’re more interested in larger scale statues for your collection to show your love for the film, look no further than the 1:6 scale posed Superman PVC figure, which boasts a poseable cloth cape, a kryptonian crystal base, collectible card and an iconic pose. At 11 inches in height, this Superman statue is not only extremely faithful to how he looks in the film but will also be a showstopper in any DC collection.

While pre-orders have been selling faster than a speeding bullet, these collectibles are certainly worth checking out. Whether you’re a long time Superman fan or just excited for James Gunn’s take on the character, these figures will undoubtedly make your fortress of solitude far more hopeful than it was before.
