Xolo Maridueña Set To Reprise Blue Beetle Role in ‘Man of Tomorrow’
The Scarab-powered hero is entering the Superman saga and the new DCU. Xolo Maridueña is set to reprise his role as Jaime Reyes, better known as Blue Beetle, in James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow, bringing one of the DC Universe’s most promising young heroes into the highly anticipated follow-up to 2025’s Superman. The casting has been reported by Deadline, Variety and Entertainment Weekly.
The film will mark Maridueña’s second live-action appearance as Jaime following Blue Beetle in 2023. His return preserves one of the strongest elements of that film while giving the character an opportunity to move beyond his origin story and become more deeply connected to the developing DCU. Details surrounding Jaime’s role remain under wraps. However, the Scarab’s alien origins and advanced technology could make Blue Beetle especially important in a story centered on Brainiac, the extraterrestrial artificial intelligence who will be portrayed by Lars Eidinger.

Man of Tomorrow will reunite David Corenswet’s Superman and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, forcing the bitter enemies into an uneasy alliance against a much greater threat. Rachel Brosnahan will return as Lois Lane, while Milly Alcock will reprise her role as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. The film’s expanding superhero roster also includes Aaron Pierre as John Stewart/Green Lantern, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl. Frank Grillo will return as Rick Flag Sr., Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher. Adria Arjona will appear as Maxima, adding another powerful figure from Superman’s comic-book mythology to the DCU. Matthew Lillard and Sinqua Walls have also joined the cast in roles that have not been disclosed.
Maridueña’s return strengthens the connective tissue of the DCU while positioning Jaime Reyes to become a significant figure within the franchise. Blue Beetle can now interact with established heroes, confront a cosmic-level enemy and potentially help lay the groundwork for future team-based projects. His inclusion also increases the scale of Man of Tomorrow. What began as a Superman follow-up is increasingly taking shape as a major DCU event, bringing together Kryptonians, Green Lanterns, metahumans, government figures and one of DC’s most technologically advanced heroes. With Superman, Supergirl, Blue Beetle, Mister Terrific, Hawkgirl and two Green Lanterns assembled against Brainiac, Man of Tomorrow is preparing to test the strength—and unity—of the young DC Universe.
Written and directed by James Gunn, Man of Tomorrow is currently in production and is scheduled to arrive in theaters July 9, 2027.
