DC Announce Two Superman Animated Movies For 2020
DC Comics announced two Superman animated movies for their 2020 slate for animated movies at San Diego Comic Con yesterday. That slate included three movies for 2020, which were announced during the Batman: Hush Premiere.
The first of the three is Superman: Red Son, this will be the kick off for their movie line-up. I am so so so excited for this. It’s one of my favourite Superman books, and I can’t wait to see it made into animation. There were rumours surrounding this last year, but now it is all confirmed, and I couldn’t be happier.
Red Son is a graphic novel by Mark Millar, Dave Johnson & Killian Plunket, which explores the idea of what if Superman didn’t crash land in Kansas, but Soviet Russia! If you haven’t read this book yet, add it to your list! For me, It’s my favourite ‘Elseworld’ story, and I know a lot of people share my love for it.
There are limited details about this project so far, but as 2020 draws closer I’m sure more will be released. I would expect an early 2020 release if this is the first of three.
Among those three is Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, which is scheduled for a Spring release. This is a direct sequel to Justice League Dark which was released in 2017.
Now for the second DC animated Superman movie… Superman: Man Of Tomorrow. As this is the third in the line-up, I would expect a late 2020 release. Man Of Tomorrow will be based around an original story, rather than a comic book adaptation, which means we don’t really know what to expect from it. We don’t know the story, the characters involved, or the villain, but I have high hopes! I’m always happy to see Superman in the limelight, and this is doing just that! Again we have limited details so far, but I’m sure more and more will be teased as we go on.
That’s right… we are getting TWO newDC animated Superman movies in one year – Superman fans rejoice! I will share more details as soon as I have them!
