DC Comics announce Superman ’78 digital first

A Superman ’78 digital first comic series has just been announced by DC Comics. Last year I had the pleasure of interviewing Robert Venditti and he hinted at something he was working on that I’d be excited about… I’m guessing this was that project.

The series will be written by Robert Venditti, with artwork by Wilfredo Torres. To say I am excited would be a complete understatement! Here is a look at the cover;

Here is the official write up from DC with regards to the synopsis:

Rob Venditti (Hawkman) and Wilfredo Torres (Batman ’66) will collaborate on Superman ’78 to tell stories set within the world Richard Donner and Christopher Reeves created in Superman: The Movie. In Superman ’78, bystanders are surprised and delighted by Superman’s abilities, and Lois Lane doesn’t (yet!) know that Clark Kent is secretly Superman. The sheer thrill of seeing a man fly, leap, or stop a bullet will be reflected in this environment where Superman has just been introduced! Inspired by Donner’s classic, timeless style of superhero storytelling, in Superman ’78 Venditti and Torres will show fans that a man can truly fly.

As well as a Superman ’78 series, we will also be getting a Batman ’89 series written by Sam Hamm, with artwork by Joe Quinones.

The first six chapters will be released digitally weekly from 27th July, followed by new chapters of each comic for the six weeks that follow. Those twelve chapters will then be published as six comic books between August and October 2021 and hardcover collections will be available between October and November 2021.

This Superman ’78 digital first series is quite literally a dream come true for both Superman and Batman fans, and I cannot wait to delve into these worlds once more.
