‘Superman: Son Of Kal-El‘ is sadly set to end later this year. The news was announced during the Superman panel at New York Comic Con over the weekend.
The series has been great so far, it really went a long way for readers to get to know the older Jon Kent and what his place was within the DC Universe and also the Superman Family. It was great to see him work alongside his father, but it has also been great to see him take his own path. But with that said, #18 which is out in December will be the last of the series.
To make up for that, DC has announced a brand new six-issue miniseries titled ‘Adventures Of Superman: Jon Kent’, which will be written by Tom Taylor, with art by Clayton Henry. The series will focus around Jon getting his chance to take on Ultraman and Taylor promises that Val-Zod, Superman of Earth-2 will play a huge role in the series. I am ecstatic to hear that we get to see Jon Kent take on Ultraman, that issue where we saw him tortured by the villain was harrowing, so I’m glad we get to see that come to fruition.
Here’s a look at the two covers for the #1 of the series by Clayton Henry and Rafa Sandoval, which are both fantastic.
Here’s what Tom Taylor had to say about the announcement:
“It’s a real testament to the fantastic response of fans to Jon as Superman. This series is going to be one of the most action-packed books I’ve ever written and Jon is going to be tested more than ever before. While we can tell you the Superman of Earth-2, Val-Zod, and Jon’s nemesis, Ultraman, will be key characters in the early part of Adventures of Superman, what we’re going to reveal at the end of issue #2 will have everyone talking and issue #3 launches us in a direction that no one will see coming.”
Taylor also released the title art for the upcoming series and an exclusive look at the suit designs.
‘Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent’ is set for release early 2023 and I cannot wait to see where the series takes Jon Kent.
