Power Girl Set To Make Her Return In ‘Action Comics’ New Format

‘Action Comics’ will adopt the new format from #1051, which is set for release in January 2023 and I cannot wait to see what role Power Girl plays in the series.

Power Girl is set to make her return to the ‘Action Comics’ series! The series is set to adopt a brand new format, as announced during the Superman panel at New York Comic Con.

Power Girl is a member of the Superman family, otherwise known as the Earth-2 Supergirl, Kara Zor-L or Karen Starr. She is a genuine Kryptonian and is one of the Superman family members that are often sadly forgotten about, so it is great to see her get some of the limelight once more. I hope this return is permanent and perhaps if the character proves popular, it could lead to a solo series for the hero.

She is set to return in the pages of Action Comics, which will be getting a brand new format, that change is set to start from Action Comics #1051. That new format consists of three stories, with Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Rafa Sandoval on the main Superman story, Dan Jurgens and Lee Weeks on a Jon Kent story and Leah Williams and Marguerite Sauvage on a three part story to mark the start of the upcoming Lazarus Planet comic event. That third story is the one that will reintroduce Power Girl and with that there are several variants cover dedicated to the character.

Here’s what writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson had to say about the series:

“My one-word mission statement for Action Comics in 2023 is ‘Super-Family,’ and I draw inspiration from the 100-page Giant ‘Superman Family issues. We’re giving everyone in the House of El their own role and personal journey while still keeping Superman at the forefront, and tying all the Super-titles together in a way that’s reminiscent of the Triangle Era.”

Here’s a look at some of the character designs for the Superman Family by artist Dan Mora. As you can see there are two new members who are the twins that Superman brought back with him from Warworld. It’s a great way to get them involved in the family and I’m looking forward to seeing more of them. Similar to Power Girl, Kong Kenan, the New Superman is often forgotten about within the Superman Family, so it looks like he will also be playing more of a role in the series.

Power Girl Set To Return

The stories by Dan Jurgens and Lee Weeks act as a sequel for the ‘Lois & Clark’ series that the pair worked on together in 2016. The sequel storyline is titled ‘Lois & Clark 2: Doom Rising’ which features a young Jon Kent. The stories featuring Power Girl will act as a spin off from the Lazarus Planet event. Here’s a look at all of the other covers for Action Comics #1015 by Jorge Forces, Rafa Sandoval, Jack Herbert, Steve Beach, Dan Nakayama and Sergio Davila.

‘Action Comics’ will adopt the new format from #1051, which is set for release in January 2023 and I cannot wait to see what role Power Girl plays in the series.
