Earlier this week, DC announced its brand new initiative ‘Dawn Of DC’ which is set to start in January 2023. The initiative sets our a year long plan with brand new and ambitious storylines by Stellar creative teams. It offers 20 brand new titles which star Batman, Green Lantern, Doom Patrol, Shazam, Green Arrow, Superboy, Superman and more.

But what does it have in store for fans of the Superman Family? Well, the answer is a LOT!

The initiative kicks off with Action Comics #1051, which is set for release in January. This issue starts a brand new format for the series, which include three stories in each release. Writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson will continue to write the main stories featured in the series, but both Dan Jurgens and Leah Williams will also be contributing to the issue. Following this, we have the release of Superman #1, which is written by Joshua Williamson with art by Jamal Campbell. The series will focus on Clark Kent settling back to his life on Earth whilst legendary and brand new villains attempt to take him on. There have already been teases of the returning villains and I can’t wait to see what Williamson and Campbell do with them and the Man Of Steel. Superman #1 is set for release in February 2023 and here is a look at the cover by Jamal Campbell.

In March, we will see the release of Adventures Of Superman: Jon Kent #1, which will be written by Tom Taylor, with art by Clayton Henry. The series will see Jon Kent continue to forge his own path in Metropolis and within the series he will take on Ultraman. For readers of the Action Comics series by Bendis, you’ll know that Ultraman was his fathers doppelgänger who kidnapped and tortured him. As a reader, it was a harrowing time for Jon, but I can’t wait to see him come face to face with him. Here is the cover for Adventures Of Superman: Jon Kent #1 by Rafa Sarmento.

In April, Superboy AKA Conner Kent will get his very own series in Superboy: The Man Of Tomorrow. This title was the winner of the 2022 DC Round Robin and will be written by Kenny Porter, with art by Jahnoy Lindsay. In this series Conner is determined to find his own place in the universe after he leaves Earth behind. This is a journey of self-discovery for him and introduces him to a group of freedom fighters who go against everything he and the Superman crest stand for. I am extremely excited for this series and here is a look at the cover of #1 by Jahnoy Lindsay.

And finally, in June a brand new series titled ‘Steelworks’ will release. The series follows John Henry Irons who attempts to bring Metropolis into the future whilst his niece Natasha carries the mantle of Steel. This is the first we have heard about this series and I know it will go down a treat with fans of the iconic storyline, The Death Of Superman. The creative teams for this title will be announced at a later date.

DC Comics describes the ‘Dawn Of DC’ as being an easy entry point for lifelong fans, but also first time readers. If that is the case, I think it’s a great idea. Trying to play catch up with a character is daunting for new comic readers, so I hope this brings in a totally new audience to the franchises.

Well, I wasn’t kidding when I said ‘Dawn Of DC’ was huge news for Superman fans! It’s safe to say we have a LOT to look forward to and I cannot wait for this new era of Superman comics.
