Jon Cryer Will Not Reprise His Role As ‘Superman & Lois’ Casts For A New Lex Luthor
Since the news of the casting was released, Jon Cryer took to Twitter to confirm the news and that he would no longer be playing the role.
Well, it seems Henry Cavill isn’t the only one not reprising his role in the Superman universe… Earlier this week, The CW announced that Lex Luthor will be appearing in the third season of ‘Superman & Lois’ and that they are actively casting for the part.
Since the news of the casting was released, Jon Cryer took to Twitter to confirm the news and that he would no longer be playing the role. Not only that but Cryer also joked following the news about Henry Cavill by tweeting “Henry Cavill and I are gonna go have a drink”.
Jon Cryer appeared as Lex Luthor in the Arrowverse, in which showcased the first appearance of Superman and Lois Lane played by Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch, so it’s safe to say the series are connected. I thought his portrayal of the character was spot on and in some ways seemed like a homage to Gene Hackman’s take on the character in the Christopher Reeve films. It is a huge shame that we won’t be seeing him reprise his role as Lex Luthor, I thought he was brilliant.
The casting call which was revealed by ‘That Hashtag Show‘ confirms that The CW are looking for a white male in his late 40s. It seems they are also looking for that typical Luthor mindset by looking for someone who is “hellbent on destroying those who he feels are responsible for ruining his life. A chilling businessman, who’s rogue and amoral”. With that said, it seems like Superman & Lois are going for a very dark and gritty version of the character compared to some of the lighthearted and sometimes comedic ones we’ve seen in the past.
Though the news regarding Jon Cryer is a huge shame, I look forward to what ‘Superman & Lois’ series three has in store for us.
