James Gunn Set To Direct Upcoming ‘Superman: Legacy’ Title

James Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy’ will hit cinemas on 11th July 2025 and will be the kickstart the new DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

Since the announcement of ‘Superman: Legacy’ during the DC Studios slate reveal, there has been a lot of speculation as to who was going to direct it. Well, now those speculations can stop because James Gunn, Co-Head of DC Studios, confirmed that he, himself, would be directing the film.

Gunn confirmed via social media by sharing this rather emotional thread on Twitter:

Prior to this confirmation, we knew that James Gunn himself would be writing the film, that was confirmed during the DC Studios announcement with Peter Safran. There were also interviews from Safran himself that suggested that he would be the ideal choice, and a now deleted YouTube interview with Tom King where he named James Gunn as being the Director. Personally, I think that this accidental slip of the tongue is what may have lead to this sudden announcement.

Whilst James Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy’ is NOT an origin story, it “focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Superman represents truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned”.

James Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy‘ will hit cinemas on 11th July 2025 and will be the kickstart the new DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
