Narrated by Rosario Dawson and directed by Leslie Iwerks and Mark Catalena, ‘Superpowered: The DC Story‘ consists of interviews with it’s creators, from comic book writers, artists, actors and directors. It’s a chronological deep dive into EVERYTHING, comics, film, TV, animation, you name it. It delves into how they tell their stories, features behind the scenes footage, clips of cosplayers and real fans of this brand and it’s characters. All in all it feels like a love letter to DC, its characters and also its fans, which is great to see.
It was great to see the creators behind our favourite stories (both old and new) really talk us through what they think it means to be a superhero, why these characters are important to them, how their stories began and how they’ve pushed DC to move along with the times. It is fascinating to hear how their ideas came to realisation and how they impacted readers over the years.
There are several characters that the 3 part series focuses on and they are the main characters within the Justice League – Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and The Flash. Though there is mention and tributes to many others, those characters are the focus it seems. Taking Superman as a prime example – being a huge Superman fan, I have followed the hero and his story for years now and there are still so many fascinating facts featured in this documentary that I didn’t even know!
‘Superpowered: The DC Story‘ acts as a fascinating and emotional reminder of why we love these characters and DC as a brand. There were several moments that brought tears to my eyes after I was reminded of why these characters were so important.
‘Superpowered: The DC Story’ is set to release exclusively on Max on Thursday, July 20th.
