REVIEW: My Adventures With Superman S1 Ep 4: “Let’s Go to Ivo Tower, You Say”
My Adventures With Superman Ep 4 is another great villain of the week entry in the grand scheme of things and also a huge break for Lois in her quest to find out more about Superman.
My Adventures With Superman Ep 4, sees Superman go head to head with a billionaire and it’s not Lex Luthor. This stylish episode takes our Daily Planet intern heroes to a gala at AmazoTech tower where the progress-obsessed Dr. Ivo awaits.
Clark (Jack Quaid), Lois (Alice Lee), and Jimmy (Ishmel Sahid) are assigned to what is supposed to be their first official story with the Daily Planet by Perry White (Darrell Brown) – a human interest piece on Anthony Ivo, AmazoTech’s young CEO. Lois feels stonewalled having her Superman piece discredited and won’t settle for a fluff piece. She wants to expose Dr. Ivo for shady and illegal endeavours he was using his company for.
In fact, this version of Dr. Ivo (Jake Green) comes across as a sort of twisted version of Tony Stark. Amazo isn’t his android creation, but rather his tech empire. He has special plans at the gala too, he’s unveiling something big that further drives that point also. This take on Dr. Ivo also combines with another well-known Superman rogue in the unique tech-driven way that is trademark in the show.
Clark and Lois shine in this episode as they begin to realize that being co-workers may not be the only thing that draws them together. When they had begun, Clark wasn’t always on board with Lois’ way of approaching potential leads. Here, he learns that maybe being assertive and snooping around is necessary in some cases. With Dr. Ivo, it’s more than necessary with what he, Lois, and Jimmy find behind the scenes at Ivo Tower.
Interestingly enough, we also get some backstory with this version of Lois as she talks about her family. Her mother has passed and she is distant from her father, which may elude to a future appearance of Sam Lane. She didn’t mention him being an army general, but there is always the chance. He would absolutely make for an interesting antagonist or supporting character down the line in this series.
It’s obviously a job for Superman in the second act and it’s a confrontation that requires some tactical planning. Dr. Ivo’s. obsession with changing the world leads to people getting hurt and that’s something that he will just not abide. The villain’s appearance may also be based on the appearance of a well-known mech anime to keep it spoiler free. This really is the Superman series for fans of Eastern animation – the creative staff knows their stuff.
My Adventures With Superman Ep 4 is another great villain of the week entry in the grand scheme of things and also a huge break for Lois in her quest to find out more about Superman. A good way to feel like a kid again is to watch it with cereal on a Saturday morning.
