McFarlane Toys Starts Pre-Orders For Superman Blue, Kryptonite Doomsday And More!

McFarlane Toys have revealed pre-orders for three different Superman-related DC Multiverse releases. This line really has become the foremost when it comes to DC Universe action figures nowadays with classic companies like Mattel and DC Direct no longer in the running. When Spawn first hit the shelves, who would’ve thought Todd McFarlane was also a toy maker? These preorder releases include Superman Blue, Superman, and Krypto, and a special Kryptonite Doomsday.

Superman Blue was one of the stranger Superman stories in the 90s as the Man of Steel received new energy-based powers. This would carry into the pages of JLA until Superman Blue would split into Superman Red with the two operating similarly to Hawk Dove with their similar powers and clashing personalities. The DC Multiverse Superman Blue figure is part of the JLA series of four figures which has yet to be fully revealed. But what has been revealed is the Plastic Man build-a-figure, in which Superman Blue comes with the torso. Along with being the usual 7” scale figure with 22 points of articulation with the standard art card and base, the Superman Blue figure is a unique release with four different energy effects. The art card has yet to be revealed clearly, but it’s more than likely to feature a panel or cover from the original run.

McFarlane Toys’ Superman & Krypto two-pack based on The Return of Superman is one of their best releases and can still be easily found online for retail price from a variety of retailers. While it’s not a preorder, but a special platinum edition for a Runfair Campaign in collaboration with McFarlane, the glow-in-the-dark Superman, and Krypto is a true collector’s piece. It’s still the same 90s-based Superman figure mold with the mullet and broader build. The Krypto figure isn’t exactly designed for articulation and these figures were released before McFarlane Toys converted to felt capes. The character card for this one is a cool art piece of Superman triumphing over Doomsday in the style of Dan Jurgens. It’s also one of the sets that come with a display stand for the card, which they only do for special editions.

If Krypton had a grim reaper, then it would be Kryptonite Doomsday – a character that made his debut in 2008 going up against Batman and Superman. “Once a simple Kansas farm boy, Joshua Walker wanted nothing more than to make his parents proud and serve his country. Knowing service meant sacrifice, Walker volunteered for Amanda Waller’s “Last Line” experimental program. Using Kryptonite as a bonding agent, Joshua’s DNA was intertwined with Doomsday’s, mutating him into an unstoppable monster. Dubbed the “All-American Boy,” Walker’s sole purpose became subduing Superman, and if necessary, killing the Man of Steel.”

Kryptonite Doomsday, or rather All-American Boy, takes on a more Predator-like appearance than the real Doomsday with similar dreads rather than any horns or hair. Of course, his bone spikes are Kryptonite which does add a nice glow to the figure. Appropriately, it joins the rest of the Doomsday DC Multiverse releases as a mega figure.
