REVIEW: My Adventures With Superman S2 Finale, “My Adventures With Supergirl”
The ‘My Adventures With Superman’ S2 Finale is titled “My Adventures With Supergirl” and continues Brainiac’s attack on Earth, but with Kal-El and Kara both temporarily out of action, it’s up to the humans to take on not only Brainiac, but also Lex Luthor’s rogue Metallo robots!
This episode has some great surprises and some great moments where I genuinely smiled or cheered. Like I said the Kryptonians are out of action, so the people of Metropolis are having to step up to help. Say what you will about Amanda Waller and her ways, this episode shows her in a slightly new light, a rather heroic light actually as she swears to protect Earth and really tries to make a difference. This scene also brings some very welcome, very familiar and very unexpected faces back to the action, which gives us some excellent moments and really shows Superman that he isn’t alone in all of this.
Just as our heroes are getting ahead in the battle, Brainiac shows his intelligence and puts them back in their place with a shocking revelation. This forces Superman to make the ultimate decision – his people (Kara) or his planet – as Brainiac once again takes control of her. This revelation gives Clark all the motivation he needs to put this to an end, but that doesn’t come easy. Not only is he now having to face Kara, but also the rest of Brainiac’s army, this gives us some incredible fight sequences that are filled with emotion, anger and motivation. It’s an incredible moment and the score really adds more atmosphere and emotion to every moment.
The episode and series in general is beautifully written. Each character plays their part and it genuinely brought a tear to my eye as Kara truly realises her place in the world. This episode is filled with excellent moments between both Superman and Supergirl, showing their tenacity, hopefulness and showcasing pretty much everything that I love about the two of them. This entire episode is pretty damn inspirational as the two of them really show Brainiac what they are capable of. The final fight sequence had me SCREAMING at the screen and I think that reaction will be the same for a lot of comic book fans.
I feel that the ‘My Adventures With Superman’ S2 finale really rounds EVERYTHING up, no character or plot point that has been introduced is left hanging in the interim and not only do the characters do their part to help, but they also either redeem themselves or their relationships. Whilst this show is called ‘My Adventures With Superman’, this series had a real focus around Supergirl and how she grows as a character which was fantastic.
‘My Adventures With Superman’ season 2 has once again been an absolute joy to watch, the entire creative team behind this show deserve the world as they have not only pulled off a very unique story in Superman lore, but they have also created one of my favourite pieces of Superman media to date. Bring on season 3!
