Super-Tsunami: Rubies, Kidrobot, and Mattel Release Merch For Upcoming ‘Superman’ Movie
It’s been a few weeks since Superman day, and while it’s gone up, up, and away until next year, there’s still so much ground to cover with all the announcements and reveals that came out that day. While McFarlane Toys Superman figure line up was a major headline in the merchandise side of things, here’s some things you might’ve missed.
For those who are yearning for fall festivities or just want a cheap and easy costume to wear to an upcoming con, Rubies has released images of their brand new halloween costumes inspired from the Superman movie. In the post they made on Instagram on April 19th for their announcement, the caption says “New suits for a new era! Step into the world of Superman with our latest officially licensed costumes from the highly anticipated DC Studios film! With new heroic (and villainous) characters to choose from, who will you suit up as? Get ready for Superman to arrive in theaters everywhere July 11th!”.
In the lineup of super suits presented we have: (roll call!) Superman, Hawkgirl, The Engineer, Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern, and last but not least, Mr. Terrific. Not only do these dynamic duds come in smaller sizes for kids, but adult size costumes will also be available for purchase. Not only can you transform your human friend group into World’s Finest, but you can get your heroic hound their very own Krypto cape. It’s not clear as to if and when we’ll get more costumes of the same characters or if Rubies will reveal more the closer we get to the film’s release. So if you need a quick and easy superhero disguise to don at your friend’s Halloween party, or if your little one is super-stoked for anything DC, Rubies is ready to deliver. (Phone booths not included).

Does your room or your kids bunk bed need a cuddly, caped, companion to keep you company in your day to day life? Don’t fear, KidRobot’s Superman plushies are here. You can now pre-order your very own Superman stuffie. You don’t need x-ray vision to tell that this super-softie is directly inspired from David Corenswet’s portrayal of the character, as he sports the distinct logo, yellow belt, trunks, and chiseled cheekbones. Although he’s named the man of steel, this plush is made of incredibly soft materials. If you’re needing backup in your kiddo’s ongoing war against nightmares and boogeymen in the closet, or just want your Clark to have his powerful pup beside him, KidRobot also offers a Krypto plushie that you can bundle with your Man of Tomorrow. Krypto turns up the cute factor with his right raised ear and soft white fur. He also comes equipped with his kryptonian collar and cape, as seen in the trailers. If there’s one superpower this stuffed animal has, it’s unlimited cuteness.

If your kids have been wanting to get in on the Superman hype, but you don’t necessarily want to see them use your McFarlane Superman to make him “fly” down the stairs, Mattel has superb kid-friendly figures to choose from. In one particular set, you can recreate or concoct your very own Action Comics adventure with the Imaginext Superman Kaiju Clash playset. This set includes the colossal kaiju creature (as seen in the previews) that stands at 10 inches tall, can not only loom over your courageous Kryptonian, but also has light up eyes, gnashing chomp action, arm slams, but has sound effects to give your kid’s sandbox smackdown an extra theatrical touch. It wouldn’t be a Superman set without our powerful protagonist, now in 3 inch form. Although he is small, he comes prepared with hands that he can grab hold of the chained beast to prevent it from destroying your imaginary Metropolis. Both figurines are faithful to the film and are just as colorful and expressive as you’d hope. Mattel plans on releasing more as James Gunn’s film release approaches. This epic set will hit shelves on June 1st, and I know what you’re thinking, “Great Caesar’s Ghost! That’s not long at all, what if I lose track of time and they’re all gone?! What then?!” don’t worry, Mattel will be releasing another wave in the fall within the same 3 inch scale of Guy Gardner, Mister Terrific, Krypto, Hawkgirl, and of course, Superman.

The ‘Summer of Superman’ is just on the horizon, and we’ve already gotten so many reveals and merch to chew on until the July 11th DCU debut. If you’re feeling underwhelmed by the items included in the article, remember to look up, because there’s plenty more where that came from.
‘Superman’ soars into cinemas on 11th July.
