Jon has been killing it in his solo series where he takes the responsibility of Superman, and I have absolutely loved getting to know him more as an individual rather than just Superman’s son. Tom Taylor, John Timms and Gabe Eltaeb have done a fantastic job of giving him his own personality and traits.

Well, it doesn’t stop there! Writer Tom Taylor has just announced that Jon Kent is bisexual on ‘National Coming Out Day’ – and what a great day to do so. Here is the post that Tom Taylor shared on Twitter earlier today:

It is confirmed that Jon’s love interest is Jay Nakamura, who is his ‘hacktivist’ friend that we met in the first issue. Their friendship has blossomed since then and it is set to blossom to another level in #5 which is set for release in November.

Here’s what Tom Taylor had to say regarding the announcement:

“I’ve always said everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes and Iā€™m very grateful DC and Warner Bros. share this idea. Superman’s symbol has always stood for hope, for truth and for justice. Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics.”

Here is a look at the covers for the issue, which have been released in conjunction with DC Pride. The standard cover is by John Timms, the first variant is by Inhyuk Lee and the second by Travis Moore.

Personally I have no problems with this, it only adds to his character and provides us with different dynamics, more stories to tell, more representation and I fully support it. I’m really looking forward to seeing where Tom Taylor takes this and I’m so happy for Jon.

Superman: Son Of Kal-El #5 is on sale 9th November 2021.
