Art Baltazar is a comic artist and writer based in America. He has worked on a number of series for DC, including Superman Family Adventures, Tiny Titans and Billy Batson and The Magic Of Shazam!
His work tends to focus on the younger audiences, but that’s part of what I love about his work. He brings in the new generation of comic book fans with his colourful artwork and writing style. In fairness, there aren’t a lot of artist/writers and even comic books that focus on that particular audience, so it is nice to see him carrying the torch! I will certainly be introducing my children to his work – when I have them that is!
Now he is back with another book, this time all about Superman! The book is titled ‘Superman of Smallville’, and will be a graphic novel which will re-introduce youngsters to Superman’s origin story.
The book is written by both Franco Aureliani and Art Baltazar, and is illustrated by Art himself. According to an article by Geek Mom, the pair are extremely excited to be working on a Superman piece. Here is a statement from the duo themselves: “but the fact that we get to start at the beginning with this younger version and see what it would be like if Superman were to start being Superman today is a true honor!“
Here is the official synopsis of the book from the DC Comics website:
Can Superman keep Smallville from going to the dogs?
Acts of awesomeness are happening around town. People are being rescued, runaway tractors stopped, and fires extinguished. This is all in a day’s work for the hero known only as “Superman.” But who is he, really?
Thirteen-year-old Clark Kent knows. He has a super-secret—one his parents are constantly worried will get out. Clark promises to be extra careful, but when random objects begin to take flight and disappear, his parents threaten to ground him. Except he’s innocent! If Superman isn’t responsible…who is? Join Clark in this hilarious adventure as he sniffs out the real culprit. From New York Times-bestselling and Eisner Award-winning creators Art Baltazar and Franco, comes a fun, whimsical story featuring young Lana Lang, Lex Luthor, and of course Clark Kent.
Not only a synopsis, but below is a peak at the artwork from the book! I love the artwork, its cartoonistic, colourful and that is just what kids need and want. Not that I’m an expert, but kids tend to get bored easily and are easily distracted – well not with this incredible artwork on every page!
Now, I know I’m not a kid (on the outside), but I will certainly be picking up this issue and sharing it with the children in my life.‘Superman of Smallville’ will be available from 3rd September 2019 from local comic book stores and book shops. Can’t wait that long? Well, you can pre-order it now!
