Cryptozoic Announce DC Rebirth Deck-Building Game
Cryptozoic & Warner Bros. have combined forces to bring us yet another DC related card game. Last year we saw the release of the Superfriends card game, and now we have the Cryptozoic DC Deck-Building Game: Rebirth.
The game is set for 1-4 players, where you can play as members of The Justice League. You can play as part of a team, or individually, with game-play expected to last around 60 minutes. The game is revolves around the characters moving across the city among iconic locations to find the cards required for their deck in order to stop the villains. It sounds pretty cool right! I’m not usually one for card games, but I’m really intrigued to see what this game is all about!
Lead Designer, Matt Hyra explained the ins and outs of the game in the official press release:
“Rebirth is a Scenario-driven experience, and is typically played in Campaign Mode, though there are other ways to play,” said Matt Hyra, Lead Designer of DC Deck-Building Game: Rebirth. “At the end of each session, players keep track of various milestones on record sheets that can have consequences in the next Scenario. This game lets you become a true hero as you strategise with your teammates, use Assist cards to help each other, and even position your character to stop Villains in their tracks, protecting your fellow players . . . and the city too!”
Not only do we have a brand new card game by Matt Hyra and Nathaniel Yamaguchi, the game is the first to introduce real campaign scenarios, character progression, movement between familiar locations. The contents includes over 240 game cards, 41 unlockable cards, 8 scenario packs, 8 superhero cards, 8 characters standees, 7 location tiles, 1 threat track, 9 threat tiles, 28 tokens, 1 randomiser card, and of course the rulebook! It sounds like one big beast of a game!
The Cryptozoic DC Deck-Building Game: Rebirth game will be released on 1st August and is aimed towards players aged 15+. It will be released in conjunction with Gen Con, which is a table-top gaming convention. At the same time it will be released in retailers across the US. The game itself will retail at $45.00, with a “DC Deck-Building Game Rebirth Launch Kit” priced at $20.00. This launch kit will be available for retailers (ONLY) to order, so that they can introduce people to the game and increase the awareness of it. Be sure to check out your local retailer for more information on that.
There is currently no information on when, where or how much it will be in the UK at this time, but I will keep you informed when I know more.
