Earlier this week I had the opportunity to sit down with the cast of Black Adam! I got to speak to Noah Centineo who plays Atom Smasher and Quintessa Swindell who plays Cyclone and man, what an experience that was!
Tasmin: Hello! You were great in the film and the film itself is awesome! So when your characters spring into action, there’s obviously a lot of CGI involved, but what did that look like when you were filming and what was it like?
Noah: Well we got very lucky actually. The sets, were practically built sets, they were massive and extraordinarily detailed, whether we were outside in Khandaq or whether we inside a soundstage built to be in Khandaq. We destroyed an entire city centre and it was all fabricated. So I will say we had a lot of help, it wasn’t like you know, how Clooney was doing it *giggles*. There’s been a bit of evolution in the technology space…
Quintessa: It wasn’t the green box!
Noah: The green box baby! So yeah, we were there, but also of course you get to use your imagination because it’s so…
Quintessa: Yeah the imagination aspect of it was great!
Noah: That’s the funnest part!
Quintessa: It was so much fun!
Noah: Because you sit there and then Jaume (the director) was like so “this happens, and then this happens” and you just kind of see it.
Quintessa: Yeah, and then the technique starts to come out and then it’s like “okay, so how can I embody the environment? What am I standing on? What’s over here?” So there’s all of this information that you can go to the VFX guy with and he was so giving. Everyone was so full and present and ready with information to make the experience the best it possibly could be.
Noah: Yeah it took a village, and it was a good village.
Tasmin: Thank you both so much!
I’d like to extend my thanks to Warner Bros UK for arranging this, I am forever grateful! And a huge thanks to Noah Centineo & Quintessa Swindell for being so awesome!
Black Adam hits cinemas on 21st October.
