‘Superman: Legacy’ was one of the first few announcements from James Gunn & Peter Safran’s upcoming DC Studios slate that was released earlier today.
It is set to be a live action film, which is the official launch of the DC Studios plan. It has been stated that this film IS NOT an origin story, but according to Peter Safran, “focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Superman represents truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned”.
Here’s what James Gunn had to say about the upcoming film, ‘Superman: Legacy’:
With our stories, we want to take it away from good guy vs. bad guy. There are really good—almost saintly—people and Superman is among them. There are really terrible villains like Gorilla Grodd or the Joker. And then there’s everybody in between them, so there are all these shades of gray which allow us to tell complex stories.
The upcoming film is currently being written by Gunn, who is halfway through the process and claims he is having a blast writing the introductory film for DC Studios’ Superman. There is no director or cast announced as of yet, though Gunn himself is hoping that he will also direct it.
‘Superman: Legacy’ is set for release in 11th July 2025.
