REVIEW: Superman & Lois S3 Ep 8: Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner

Superman & Lois S3 Ep 8 concludes with many loose ends and a doozy of a cliffhanger. This season has felt like it was building to some major confrontations and this episode delivered on at least one of them.  It’s going to be interesting to see how and where things unfold from here especially as we’ve entered the last half of Season Three.

Superman & Lois S3, Ep 8, “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” brings the Bruno Mannheim arc closer to an end as multiple plots come crashing together. The intensity of this episode’s drama makes for an edge-of-your-seat suspenseful viewing.

The major plot focuses around Natalie’s dinner date in Metropolis with Matteo’s parents. As revealed in the previous episode, Matteo (Spence Moore II) is the son of Bruno (Chad L. Coleman) and Peia (Daya Vaidya) Mannheim. Not knowing who Bruno Mannheim is, let alone what history he has with her father, Nat (Taylor Buck) hasn’t got a clue as to the danger she’s possibly in.

Meanwhile, John Henry (Wole Parks) checks in on this Earth’s version of his sister, Dr. Darlene Irons (Angel Parker) to make sure Mannheim hasn’t threatened her or her family since their last altercation. During their small talk Darlene indicates concern about where the dinner date is taking place so John Henry goes back to check on Nat. From there things get real intense as Bruno and John Henry face off once again, this time with their children in the vicinity.

The other major plot revolves around Lois (Bitsie Tulloch) no longer wanting to expose Mannheim after befriending Peia during chemo treatments. The combined efforts of Clark (Tyler Hoechlin), Crissy (Sofia Hasmik), and Sam (Dylan Walsh) help make Lois realize that Mannheim’s “the ends justify the means” approach to his problems makes him a dangerous and murderous person. After stepping in to help John Henry apprehend Peia, Clark realizes an old confession of Lex Luthor’s was tampered with using Peia’s powers. This revelation could prove Luthor was wrongfully apprehended and sets up the introduction of Michael Cudlitz’s portrayal of the character later this season.

The rest of the episode continues to build on the daily struggles everyone’s been facing so far. Jonathan (Michael Bishop) makes progress as a firefighter’s cadet only to have his actions question when Jordan (Alex Garfin) secretly intervenes during a fire rescue mission. With their added stress of Lois’s condition, the twins end up at odds over the incident and their conflict isn’t nicely resolved by episode’s end. Lana (Emmanuelle Chriqui) gets hit with a reminder of upcoming plans she made before her break-up with Kyle (Erik Valdez) and tries to see if Sarah (Inde Navarrette) would be interested in attending instead while Kyle’s character is mainly in play during the sequences involving Jonathan.
