NECA’s Toony Terror series has taken on several horror movie characters and now they’re starting to branch out into superheroes with the Classics line. Superman gets the Toon treatment with a 6’’ figure set for a December release.
Stylized like a Toon, this NECA Toony Superman figure looks like it would be in the background of Jerry Seinfeld’s apartment. In fact, you almost kind of get Seinfeld vibes from how the face is sculpted. The arm cross is a little bit of a far cry from the typical pose giving him a more smug demeanor. You also have to love how the typical toon art style conveys muscular characters with great upper bodies, but more skinny legs. The DCAU made it cool. It also comes in blister card packaging with a unique backdrop of Metropolis.
Still, the Toony Classics and Terror series aren’t designed to be taken seriously – they’re fun collectibles like Funkos. They aren’t exactly the most poseable figures either. The DC Comics Classic line also has The Joker and I would assume that more DC characters may get their toon makeover at some point down the line.
The NECA Toony Superman Figure is priced at $17.99 and is set for a December release, you can pre-order it from their website.
