REVIEW: Superman & Lois, S4, Ep 5, “Break The Cycle”
Superman & Lois S4, Ep 5, “Break the Cycle” has the Kents desperately grasping for anything to cease Luthor’s vendetta. We also get flashbacks of Luthor’s home life before prison which sets up the costly price of his revenge. This episode’s supporting cast member check-in is with Jonathan’s girlfriend Candice who immediately picks up that secrets are being kept around her.
Due to the nature of the semi-public delivery of Superman’s dead body in episode 1, several residents of Smallville have realized Superman’s alter identity. Not that it’s had a huge impact on the season thus far, but it’s fairly relevant to Candice’s storyline this episode as Jonathan continually has to duck away to help Lois with her investigations.
Thinking of anything that could satiate Luthor’s need to terrorize her family, Lois inacts a couple of risky plans. The first one is to track down his estranged daughter on hopes that getting something he desperately says he wants will get him to back off. The flashbacks play major role in setting up their relationship and foreshadows the outcome of their meeting.
The riskier plan is to face Bizarro/Doomsday herself in hopes to appeal the Clark it once was. Whether or not she succeeded will hopefully come to light in future episodes but it doesn’t immediately return to Luthor’s lair, so there’s hope. Unable to swallow his pride and feeling like he’s lost an asset, it appears Luthor will double his efforts to destroy Lois’s life as the final season continues.
Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent/Superman, Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane, Alex Garfin as Jordan Kent, Michael Bishop as Jonathan Kent, and Michael Cudlitz as Lex Luthor with guest appearances by Samantha Di Francesco as Candice Pergande, Elizabeth Henstridge as Elizabeth Luthor, Natalie Moon as Erica Luthor, and Mariana Klaveno as Lara Lor-Van.
