My Adventures With Superman, Season 3 is finally here, back with the characters we know and love with some added extras who become instantly as loveable. It’s safe to say that I missed this show and I’m so glad that it’s back! I can confirm I have seen the series in its entirety and here is my non-spoiler review.

Here’s the official synopsis for Season 3 of My Adventures With Superman:

Clark has truly become Superman and made peace with his Kryptonian origins – he’s ready to settle down! But Lois, who has finally become the Planet’s star reporter, is NOT. Jimmy has evolved from freelance photographer to celebrity journalist—but he’s still intimidated by the romantic attentions of the newly arrived Kara Zor‑El, who’s trying to find her place on Earth.

In our latest action, comedy, and romance-packed season, this found family will have to confront powerful new enemies that challenge Superman, threaten their future, and test the bonds holding them together. Can our heroes save their tomorrow–before it destroys today?

REVIEW: My Adventures With Superman, Season 3

The show continues to showcase the best of Superman, it has the perfect balance of heart and humour and really highlights everything I love about the characters in the Superman mythos. This team has nailed it once again in creating something both fresh and familiar. With the posters that were released, people and myself included thought that this was going to play out the events of Dan Jurgens’ ‘The Death Of Superman’. But Showrunner Jake Wyatt was able to take an iconic story like that and turn it into something totally different, offering a fresh and new take. It also really takes some very unexpected twists and turns that really throw the story you think you know into a totally new direction. It also blends other stories into the mix and adds references from other pop culture lore and turns it into something special.

Based on the poster, my expectations and also the announcements there are a few characters added to this roster, some I expected to see, but there were also characters I wasn’t expecting and some familiar faces returning. The way that all of these were introduced was great and done so in a way that really makes you care for these characters, I won’t spoil as to who they are or what their background is, but it was done perfectly.

Despite this being a TV show primarily focused on Superman (Jack Quaid), he actually wasn’t the highlight for me, that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy his screen-time, I adore Quaid’s wholesome take on the character. But there were three standouts for me and that was Jimmy Olsen (Ishmel Sahid), Supergirl (Kiana Madeira) and Superboy (Darren Criss). There’s a huge focus on the budding relationship of Jimmy Olsen aka Flamebird and Kara, that was a highlight for me due to her not understanding the usual customs of relationships. I also adored the references to the many forms of Jimmy Olsen from the comic lore.

The action sequences are excellent too, seeing the Superman family fight side by side and with such skill was so great to see and the animation really works well with it. We also get to see Supergirl’s Kryptonian training really come into play and I have to say that was also a highlight for me – the same goes for Superboy. The first 5 episodes feel pretty relentless in terms of action and it doesn’t stop there but in between we see a deep dive into what it is to be Clark Kent and towards the end of the series, the crumbs that have been left develop into something special. With that said there is also a perfect measure of emotion and humour in the series which makes the darker tones feel lighter.

Some things that I loved about this series in particular is seeing Supergirl learn from Superman and also Superman learn from Supergirl. They have both had such different experiences in life so far and it’s great to see them apply their knowledge to teaching others, and the same can be said for characters like Lois Lane (Alice Lee) and Jimmy Olsen. It’s great seeing them working together to take on threats, and also explore the life of their home-world which is understandably emotional for both of them. We see the pair (Superman and Supergirl) don brand new suits which are great and that might not be the only suit we get to see Superman wear in the series…

Overall I had an absolute blast with My Adventures With Superman, Season 3. It’s a perfect addition to the series and might just be the best series to date! My Adventures with Superman airs every Saturday at midnight ET/PT as part of its Toonami anime/action block, next day on HBO Max in the US.
