REVIEW: Superman & Lois S1 Ep 2: Heritage
Superman and Lois S1 Ep 2 continues to impress and intrigue. With stunning visual effects and a lot of heart, this is a perfect continuation to a fantastic series.
Superman & Lois S1 Ep 2 aired earlier this week, and since last weeks incredible pilot episode, I have been really looking forward to the next installment!
Before we get into the episode itself, just after this episode aired on The CW, it was announced that Superman & Lois had been renewed for a second series. First of all a huge congratulations to the team working on the show, what brilliant news to them and also new fans of the show, myself included. I cannot wait to see what other Superman story lines are explored in the show.
Superman & Lois S1 Ep 2 picked up right where we left off in the first episode, with the Kent family moving to and living in Smallville, Kansas. Personally I adore that the characters and writers of the programme made the decision to move them back to Superman’s roots in Smallville. It makes a nice change to see an adult Superman back at The Kent Farm, as we are so used to seeing him tackle the problems of Metropolis. It’s a great nod to his past, well his heritage I should say.
We continue to explore the plot threads of the family drama, Smallville’s struggles as a dying town, and the new threat of “Captain Luthor” revealed in the previous episode. This makes for a very intriguing story line which has our hero taking on a number of problems of different statures. Speaking of Luthor, we get an excellent twist regarding his character which has me very excited. It could even possibly tie into the extended Arrowverse, however I really hope Superman & Lois continues to separate itself away from the tone of those shows. It seems to be doing wonders for this series so far and it would be a shame to let that go to waste.
As well as this, we also get our first look at The Fortress Of Solitude in this episode, as well as our first look at Angus Macfadyen as Jor-El. Personally I adored seeing Superman/Clark take his son Jordan to The Fortress to pass down the knowledge of their heritage. It acts as a perfect opportunity for the pair to bond, which based on the last episode, was well overdue.
All the actors continue to portray their roles with the upmost excellence, and the special effects on this show continue to stun me. It’s a marked step up from the effects seen in Supergirl or Crisis on Infinite Earths, which is fantastic. We are really seeing these characters develop, which allows us to care for them even more than we already do, this is especially the case for Lois Lane in this episode.

I agree with your review, except, I wish Clark had taken BOTH his sons to the fortress. Just because one has developed some powers doesn’t mean the other should be left out of the bonding. My only issue is with the writers. Why don’t they make the two sons’ struggles go alongside Clark’s and Lois’. Struggle with the family, not against. I get it. Just finding out that your Pops is Superman is quite a revelation. A LOT to take in, but, did the writers have to turn the kiddos into whiners? At least, for now, I assume. I know it’s a show and things work themselves out. Anyway, I really enjoy all of the stuff you post, as well as the extended things you’ve written Keep it up!
Where is the trailer for episode 2????
