REVIEW: My Adventures With Superman S2, Ep 9, “Pierce The Heavens, Superman!”
My Adventures With Superman, S2, Ep 9, “Pierce The Heavens, Superman!” is the penultimate episode of series two and I have to say, whilst I have loved each and every episode so far for it’s own reasons, this episode might just be my favourite so far.
It opens up with a sense of the multiverse, a “what if?” If you will. What would it be like if Kal-El truly grew up on Krypton. Whilst it’s a rather darker situation than I’d like, it is so great to explore Krypton a little, it’s something that I feel isn’t done enough across all forms of Superman media. But of course, this is all in his mind as Brainiac has control of his body and his two worlds start to collide as Lois Lane sets foot on his new planet. But, not only is she instantly discovered, she can’t recall what she was doing there either.
Even with Lois captured both in reality and in the mind, she still manages to connect with Kal-El and despite them both forgetting who each other are and their relationship with each other so far. I love this, despite the odds, despite the universe, they will always be made for one another, they will always come together some way or another. During this sequences we get some sort of groundhog day situation, whereby every time she gets closer to Kal-El, she is set back to where she started. This brings us a few really fun sequences where we see the different ways and tactics that she uses to try and get to him. Whilst some had me laughing out loud, others were rather emotional as she uses her true feelings to get through to him and the tables turn in a way you won’t expect.
Meanwhile, Lex’s robots try to capture Kara, Lois and Jimmy for being accomplices with Superman in the alien attack as Amanda Waller continues to blame him for what’s happened. Much to their and our surprise, she too has discovered the weakness of Kryptonians and uses to try to overpower them, but not before Jimmy sends word to his Flamebird followers!
Before Waller is able to get her falsely arrested prisoners to their holding cells, we see several interruptions, one which is rather inspiring and one that is rather frightening as the brainwashed Kal-El makes an appearance in Metropolis. This moment gives us some EXCELLENT action sequences between he, Task Force X, Kara, Luthor’s robots and eventually Brainiac’s robots, which leads to even more destruction and a few cosmetic surprises.
Each and every episode of this series has a perfect measure of humour, action and depth and that is exactly what makes this series so enjoyable for me. My Adventures With Superman, S2, Ep 9, “Pierce The Heavens, Superman!” springs us toward the final episode of the series and I seriously cannot wait to see how it turns out.
